Any custom ball is better than the Starters, mainly in meter speed and precision. Further attributes like spin and length come with the respective dots and the price.
IMHO the Tour-SD are a very good deal until Master and TM, but I recommend to start with the least expensive and work your way up to see what fits you best. The balls constitute a continuous fare to the game by wear and loss, like a green fee in real golf. Our decision how much to spend and how much to get.
For economic reasons, the balls' level should not exceed the main clubs' level IMHO.
