Just got those bad boys yesterday and played a couple rounds with them and love the meter.

My question though is do they react differently in the wind than the lvl 79 burners?? I feel like I'm always coming up wayyyy short.

The short answer is yes. A lot of irons are going to react differently simply due to their trajectory

Long answer is need more info: What Ball? What kind of wind? up or down hill? how much spin are we talking about?

A lot of different factors to consider and just takes time to find the combination that works for you.

I use the callaway hex chrome ball that costs 250c. I use full bs on a lot of my iron shots, and I feel like if I made that same shots with my burners they'd be a lot better.. need more practice with the r11's

Using fbs is causing you to come up short on shots. Spin reduces the yardage of the club. Try not using very much spin and see how they react. You will need to go to a hole like hole one on kaiwai and map out each club. Have fun.

Unless you've worked it out yourself, here's a rough guide for burners & R11's with extra yardages' due to standard cally's, and how they are with spin:

Club                            xtra yardage  with cally's  (Z)              with full backspin

      125 Pw                                131                                                122 (123 sometimes)

      135                                        141                                               132

      145                                         152                                              142

      160                                         168                                               157

      175                                          185                                               172

      190                                           200                                               187

      205                                           215                                                203

      220                                           235 (some holes its shorter)   217

      R11's

      120                                         125 if your lucky                            116

      135                                          140 if your lucky                            131

      150                                           157                                                 146

      165                                           173                                                 161

      180                                           189                                                 176

      195                                            205                                                 191

      210                                             222                                                 206

      225                                             235/240                                         221

These are all from fairway, you need to add a couple of yards distance wise from the tee

By messing around with half back spin you can also get your clubs i.e 190 iron will be 195 with half back spin.  Just takes time to understand what effect half spin has on certain irons. If you had 190 yard approach, full back spin on 190 iron is 187 yards, but if you give say a bit less back spin than full, you can get the iron to be 190 yards.  (al this is with standard cally's) different table al together for (S) cally's

      also:

don't forget to add or subtract for elevation and wind.

I agree and disagree with this. Yes spin  does reduce yardage but FBS is not what is causing you to come up short, you are just not hitting shots with FBS enough.

I personally hit almost every iron shot with FBS, i just know how far i want to hit it based on elevation and wind and make sure i add a certain amount extra to that shot based on the club and the fact i am using FBS.  That might be more for a PW or 9i but less or nothing with a 3i or 4i it really depends on the ball. I found that even the difference between the L81 RZN nike and the L61 RZN NIke are considerable if i go FBS with certain clubs. Just a matter of playing that ball and figuring out the differences

I persnally love the 61 NIke and how it plays with my calculations and my clubs but that is my preference

I know how you feel. I've had the R11s for quite a few rounds now. I came form the G20s, so I'm just starting to get use to the meter speed. Lately I'm coming up short, using Nike (Lvl 71) ball. If the club is slightly longer than the yardage I will use backspin, not necessarily full, depends on the wind also.

I just played Oakmont. GIR was 33% and scrambling 50%. That then puts a lot of pressure on my putting.

I have never been so frustrated with my approach shots.

Jason, I too have recently bought the R11s and I love them. However, I NEVER believe a word WGT prints regarding clubs I always find out for myself.

What I do is go to Bethpage #9, 10 and 11 in practice in a low wind and hit each club up and down the fairway (not using the tee) using the ball I regularly use (in my case the Lvl 33 Calloway) to get an average distance, I do this with no spin, with full backspin and with full topspin. This then gives you ACCURATE distances for your clubs with your favourite balls. I also only use 'dinged' shots to measure and I heavily use the mulligan. This can mean it's expensive in balls (iirc it cost me a full sleeve), but it does mean you have a reliable distance chart for your equipment set, (and you know how far they'll carry and how quickly they'll stop, and that REALLY opened my eyes, I'm now willing to try approaches I wouldn't have dreamed of before).

Edit: I also do this for punch shots and punch shots with BS for each club too. e.g. with Lvl 33 Calloway a BS punched R11 PW only goes 99yds.

    A good idea, Chinajohn.

However, I never always hit the ding. I nearly always hit either side, which is okay because there is usually some wind. It might take me a long time to hit the ding with every club.
