Golly! That is such fabulous news BB! I know you can do it...and will do it and will be so pleased about the strength and resolve you exhibited just to say "Enough", and mean it. In the tough spells, just pray and know that the urge will be, at first, often but fleeting and will go away...in a while, for good. A new life is waiting for you to join the party that belongs to you.

A couple more things you can do when that urge hits ... (1) Take as deep of breath as you can through your nose (like an 8 count breath).  On the exhale, blow through your mouth and slowly count to four, exhaling completely ... make sure you feel like you can't exhale any more air ... during the exhale, think to yourself, "I've beat you" or "I'm going to win" ... and (2) rub your 2nd (FU) finger and thumb together, and while doing this, think a single word, such as "Never" or "Forget".  Soon those urges will be replaced with a very positive mental response.

By the way, it takes the body 3 days to clear the nicotine out of your system.  At that point, the physical addiction is gone.  The hardest part is overcoming the emotional addiction.  But you're strong, and you can beat this!  I'm rooting for you ... heck, I'll bet every smoker on this site is rooting for you as well!  Kick this emotional addiction in the gonads!

You've got this BB!  It's going to be tough, but I know you've emotionally outgrown that crutch of smoking!  Best to you and those you love!

I would jokingly say valium... but that is just wrong..

One time I tried to quit and tried the chantics thing... the nightmares and sleep thing rendered it useless... the doctor offered me welbuterin, a mild anti depressant. I figured I'd just cut my smoking in half when I lost a lung...lol

good luck with it, but some swear that welbuterin got em through. cold turkey is going to be tough!

About 7 years ago I started having a heart attack on the golf course. Played couple of holes and smoked couple of cigs. Finally felt so bad asked my golf partner to take me to the hospital. On the way gave him my pack of cigs. and said didn't think would need these any more.

Survived the heart attack and haven't had a cig and haven't wanted a cig since. It's mostly in your head.

    A popular misconception.

Okay ... I forgot about you Hyena64.  Let me resend that ... I'll bet most everyone here is rooting for you BB!

I have been struggling mightily for the past week and a half. I can't hit the ding to save my life. Almost every shot I click way early. This is due to a life style change. After smoking for over 45 years I quit a week and a half ago.So far I am a bundle of nerves and it is affecting my game. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not to be a smart A$$, but when i thru out 2 cartons of camel non filtered (A 1 week supply) and 22 Honduran cigars (about $50.00 in 1986 dollars), I began to chew gum.

I was a cross country truck driver and unfortunately I had many boring hours to spend, and many stressful moments.  The gum did it!  Wasn't nicotine gum either, just gum.

I also had a very important reason to quit and to quit as soon as possible.  I believe that anyone can quit smoking, snuffing, chewing if the reason to do it is strong enough.

For what ever reason you quit, good on ya, and I hope you can do it

By the way, if I am at a Mall, I must find the tobacco shop, I go in holding my breath proceed to the walk-in humador and then take 3 or 4 great big breaths thru my nose to get my tobacco hit.  Then the wife  (also a former smoker) smacks me in the back of the head and pulls me out of the store.

I will also drool, get those little pains in your jaw just behind your ears, and sometimes I have to breath thru my mouth to keep from smelling a freashly lit good cigar.

I quit in 1986, have never smoked anything since and i still have rabid physical reactions to smoking.  Maybe it never goes away?  I still want one, (of anything burnable and inhaleable).

wish you the best in your efforts to quit using tobacco.  our nickle.
