I recently played a regular stroke game that had 4 players in it. Two of the players were taking a gimme sometimes when they were on the green and it was their turn to putt. I asked how was this possible. I thought that was only avalable in practice games. They told me that they had it in option in their menu. Now I checked my option when it was my turn to putt. The gimme option was not there. The fourth player said he didn't have it also.

why do some players have this option and other don't? Would'nt it be better if all players had the gimme option. It would make the games play much faster.

Has anyone else come across this problem? Let me know....

No pun intended, but I suspect some confusion. Would you please answer my questions?

We'll have to distinguish between a gimme by a player himself and a ball being "given" by an opponent. Which one was it?

AFAIK, the new gimme option is a button on the game screen, not a menu option. It's available only within 2 feet of the hole. What was the distance of the gimme putts?

OTOH, balls (and holes) can be conceded in matches, single or alternate shot. The "concede hole" option is in the menu. This would also explain the missing option in some situations. First, none of the party in turn of the stroke can concede their own ball. In fact, only one of the opponents may concede, which is the one having the next stroke on their ball, IIRC. The concede will be shown on all screens, did this happen?

You won two A/S matches Saturday, was it in one of these?

    hi

there is no gimme in stroke play and it only applies to practice rounds from close distance. now, if you were playing a/s, then they could have conceded it.

Hi- I've also noticed the new gimmie option on the game screen but it is not in the menu option. Also, I've been given the gimmie option for putts under 3 ft. (not just 2 ft.) but everytime I click the gimmie it kicks me out of the game? Anyone  else experiencing this?

Me thinks you wanted to say "There's a gimme only in (practice) stroke play" - I wonder if it's available in a multiplayer practice round? If so, it might explain the OP's observations.

    Thank you.

Coming back, I see that IJ excluded practice rounds in the thread title. My bad.

Straight from the WGT News Page at the time of the roll out of Gimmes:

"You can now take a Gimme and tap in putts that are 2 feet or less away from the hole, to help you speed-up games.

This new game feature is available for Hacks and Amateurs in both practice and ranked rounds, and for Pro tier and higher players in practice rounds only"

Playing Match Games where the "gimme" option is a player option, not an opponent.  Seems to me that the "gimme" option would be the choice of the opponent.
