    Fubar057:

Im have a hard time trying to fig. out the distance to putt, when say u have a 40ft putt with a 10ft uphill and it shows the first half of green in darkblue and the last half in lightblue; I understand its up hill so at 40ft +4ft for 10ft up =44ft.,but because half the green show lightblue that 44ft. would be way short, so how much more would i need to add because of the lightblue area??????? any help would be appriciated.  :)

    Hey Fubar,

For uphill putts of that length, where the distance is showing elevation in feet instead of inches, be sure you convert those feet to inches before you do your power calculation.

Let's assume you have a 40' putt, with 2' elevation change and there's no downhill anywhere along the line.  That would be 40 + (2 * 12) = 64' putt.

Also, while it's great when you make a long putt like that, you have two chances of sinking it (slim and none ... and slim just walked out the door!).  You just want to get the putt close, so you don't 3 putt.

One more piece of advice.  When you have a long putt, take the distance marker and move it to the ball, then trace your  putt line and see if there's any undulations along your line.  For example, does the ball go uphill for 20' and level off for a bit, then go uphill again; or does it go uphill for 36' then take a downhill approach to the hole?  You'll need to calculate those putts differently.  Just remember, you're only trying to get the putt close.
