I was playing in the Winter Tour, and on hole 5 (par 5) had a 237 yd 2nd shot. I have a 227 yd R11 3 wood. 16 mph wind at 4:00 or so (left to right, against me a little). I used full backspin, hit about 80% on the swing, and dinged it (wanting to land short and roll or land short of green and flop or chip. The ball went 307 yds!!! I know you can hit the backside of the humps and get killer kicks, but this is very odd to me, considering my drive wasn't even close to that distance, with same wind direction. My putting is bad enough as it is, and I've never played on champ greens, and having to putt from a separate time zone is discouraging. I did manage to par, though.

I looked at your shot Jeannette, and it surely looks like you got one of those kicks. It happens in this game quite often, so don't be too surprised the next time. I've had the pleasure of hitting a 315 yard 3 iron so accept it as rub of the game. Happens in real golf too!!!

Having such a wonderful experience at St Andrews(hard sand?..um no, looks like hard "pavement" to me) Hope the cut line is the top 99% :)

I had the wind at my back 3 times (2 of them on the par 3's) and then at 18...got the "hard sand/hard pavement" bounce for my longest drive :). I must say this was the weirdest, most fun, and WORST round since making legend. I can now go burn breakfast for the family (gotta take it out on someone).
