What is wrong or am I doing wrong with chipping. At times I have to hit a shot 3 times to get it on the green from 6 inches off the green. Even a complete hack in real life is unlikely to do this from 6 inches off the green. It isn't like I completely miss hit it either. I am right on the line

In this game chips don't work from rough, unless you are on the fairway AND within 2yds of the green don't chip. Pitch or flop are a better bet from rough or further out.

Learning the flop shot is the best way to reduce your score on this game.

I confess that I don't chip from rough. Alas, I'd put it the other way round, more general:

Chips must fly to fringe or green. The flying part will be short, only 20% of the length. From rough, enough power must be added (if ever possible).

Pitches must not land in rough. They fly 50 to 70 % of their length.

Big problem for beginners: The dreaded caddy will propose "chip" or "pitch" regardless of the situation, if only the ball is close enough to the pin. Make your own selection!

Of course u can chip from the rough, with high level cleve wedges a 7 yards chip from 40-50% rough if played with full TS ( top spin ) will go the full distance.

With starter clubs it is a different story, but the principle is the same. I would hit a 11 yard chip for a 7 yard distance. full back spin FWIW

Basically there is no spin on starter clubs and balls, so ur shot has to take in to consideration the elevation up or down.

i have to concur with Courteney, that a flop for me from anywhere under 29 yards is a dead cert 1 putt save.
