I am on a golf course playing in a tournament that has a one ball rule. I lose my last ball. I am now in a position where I cannot continue unless I borrow a ball from another player that is exactly like the one I was using. WGT lets me continue with the "field" ball where in real golf I would be done. And if I am playing a match with someone on WGT an he loses his last ball but has some Nike level 71 balls that he was not using, (he started with a lesser quality ball) would it be fair to me that he pulls out these Nike balls and says " look what I have in my bag".?

WGT should SERIOUSLY give this some consideration.

They did this and addressed the subject in a video chat by their CEO last year.

The message was clear: No choice, no change.

This has been asked for gazillion times. For other opinions, search =>

WGT uses an version of the One Ball Condition that makes sense for their business model.

the simple fact you can finish with a "rock" means its not one ball rule ....

buy more balls is the business model ...

DING DING DING!!  Now, i dont have a problem with the strategy/model itself, just irks me to call it a "one ball rule" when clearly its not.

and that quote of the USGA rules of golf above is NOT a rule, its a guide on how to implement a one ball rule.  I suspect that it is why its in the appendices.

"Sadly", because of how WGT does it, i have several partial sleeves, that i cant put into play because they arent my ball of choice and so I wont purchase another sleeve of those balls.  The result is that WGT is losing money from me because i wont experiment with other balls.  Also seen guys quit games because they were given the "rock". I'm sure that helped disconnect stats (not)

If WGT chooses to use it as a guide and tweak  it to match what works for their game and programming that's perfectly allowable. Even if it's an actual rule in golf it doesn't matter. This is a golf themed computer game, not actual golf.

As has been pointed out in other threads and alluded to here, substituting another ball is a scammer's delight. Count down the hits on a last ball and intentionally start a round with a ball that will run out on hole 1 or 2. Substitute your preferred ball that has attributes you're really tuned in to and take advantage of your unsuspecting opponent the remainder of the round.

The proper compromise is for WGT to allow a player to change balls mid-round in practice mode only. Such programming could actually lead to more ball sales as players experiment with different ball/club combinations and the mulligan feature to see how different combinations react in different situations. In practice mode the player gets to use up all those odds and ends and no one gets hurt in the process.

What I do currently with those leftover balls is use them up in free CTTH sweepstakes contests. No entry fees, no credits risked, when the ball finally runs out and the "rock" is substituted it's easy to finish with the rock or end the round and start again with another ball. Since it's sweepstakes the actual score doesn't matter. Not a big deal or a major undertaking.

It's still the player's responsibility to make sure the golf bag is stocked properly according to the rules being applied in each competition. It's extremely easy to do that in this game.

and not only that...wgt should never take a ball away thats on the green or better then that stop the count and just take the balls that are lost are unplayable or water balls and dont be so greedy

^ this is the only thing that matters. The rest is excuse making by folks who screwed up and can't admit it.

I wish WGT would DQ anyone who runs out of the ball in use during a Tourney and end any ranked game the same. Wouldn't take long for responsibility to come to the fore instead of excuses.

wgt is a bunch of freaking idiots. if your ball runs out, you should be able to use whats in your bag, NOT purchase more of what you had if that was the last one. if i'm playing a for real actual golf tourney, i register whats in my bag (up to a certain number) and thats what i can use. run out of them, dq. thats it!

    Incorrect, kensabre10.

The USGA "one-ball" rule allows a player to purchase more of the same ball during the round. Players on the PGA Tour have been known to send a caddy or other representative to the pro shop to get more golf balls during a tournament round. I've played in multiple SCGA regional tournaments over the years where that fact was made clear to the contestants prior to the tournament.

WGT has valid reasons for enforcing their version of the "one-ball" rule in competitions that count. It should not be enforced in practice rounds.

I still don't get the counter to my original argument. I'm not even really talk about Tournament play because I don't really play in tournaments that often. I enjoy playing the game and I just don't get the policy of reverting to the "rock" default ball instead of AT LEAST giving you a choice of playing one of the other balls that you have PAID for in your bag. Instead, you either have to PURCHASE more of the same ball that you had, OR you're stuck. Because of this policy I have about 7 different sleeves with one ball in them. It would be nice if I can just play those when my existing ball runs out. I DID purchase the other balls and feel as though I should be able to do it. If WGT wants to institute a "One Ball" rule in tournaments then that's fine. But in NON-tournaments, you should be able to cycle through your paid balls BEFORE resorting to the default "rock" ball. That's all I'm saying. I think  that is ONLY fair. Also, it would be nice to know how many more hits you have in your existing ball BEFORE they arbitrarily take it out of play. Do you disagree with that also? If so, I hope those dividends pay off for you when the IPO takes place! :-) Happy New Year!!
