Any tips the community could give me for the length of putts on Championship greens would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I never entered any of the USGA events here (shame on me) so like it or not my recent tier adjustment will be my 1st of many time's at this rodeo... lol

I do understand how the elevation effects Championship speed in a greater way. Assuming I have that under control heres what I got so far, please feel free to comment if you see a problem with these adjustments.

On most approaches ive been taking off 2-5yds because everything seems to be going a little long. The length of the putt is the first number in parenthesizes, and the actual number I hit to get there is the 2nd...  am I in the right Ball Park?

    (100') hit 75',  (80') hit 60',   (60') hit 45',   (40') hit 30',   (20') hit 15',   (10') hit 7.5'

P.S. Am I crazy or do my misses now in this new tier (1 or 2 pixels) seem to be veering offline much more than they did before?

Seems close...I been coming up with the disatance (plus or minus) due to slope/elevation changes and then taking about 30% off the total distance and haven't had any disasters yet. I think your in the ballpark

    Good luck!

Was thinking about trying map the speeds of the tournament greens tonight, anybody able to recommed which holes to do this on.

Ideally the green would be flat and big, thinking St Andrews at the minute.

If only we had a putting green for this sort of thing ;-)

Looks like it's time to come up with a new logarithm so as to cope with "Ludicrous Speed"!

Thanks that 30% does the trick very nicely and is much easier. Im the guy who has the calculator and sticky notes all over the place so you would think I would have thought of that first.  Im sure the initial shock of the Championship green speed and tee box caused me to panic...

Thanks again and best of luck!

BPB 10 and 11- Easy to get on and have 8 putts to work with.

I haven't had the opportunity to play championship greens yet, as I am stil mastering the tournament greens for my new Tour Master ranking. The only way i can relate to it is that is very similar to the speed we used to call firm/fast, in Links, which I played for 13 years prior to playing WGT. Also, the break is increased a bit.  From what have been reading so far, the championship greens are the equivalent of firm/fast in what was called the MOD mode of play, in LInks. That 30% is a number I used when playing MOD mode on firm/fast greens, with tweaks for the downhill putts. If I ever get to do championship greens, I shall give it a try here.

The meter is what makes it different here, EK. In Links we had the meter you could predict and the dots for the charts. Here you have to estimate unless you use the avatar move method or make your own scale like some do. I tried to associate the 2 games and gave up because this is much more realistic. After a while putting by feel starts to come natural. GL

p.s., TourSpies founding father-played FFA, OGT and Cases as TS_YankeeJim back in the day.  :-)

I have a scale I made a long time ago (avatar method was a pain to me) and have shared it with a bunch of people, now with the changes it is off a bit, for example a 15ft shot  straight now has to be a 14 but still pretty accurate. I thank god I have it or these new greens would be even worse. Now that I can figure out the speed I have to figure out the putts since the new speeds change the whole dynamics.

Before anyone asks it only works with the redwood or the daytona putter. If yo want you need to have MS Excel since it is in there as a form. email me at jeff.sargent@live.com

yes you have to print it out and cut it.
