mk - I see your points. You may very well be right. I still don't think any better equipment of any kind should be allowed to be introduced to a competitive game after it has begun though. Just my opinion.
Ren- not really. It doesn't make any more money for WGT your way. There are millions of golf balls sitting in virtual bags going unused. No one bought them for the express purpose of having that model as a backup ball. In your scenario people will be using up all of those already paid-for balls but not buying more of them. WGT makes nothing more whether they get used or not.
Once people run out of backups, however, the situation will be same as it is now. Shortsighted players will still run out of their primary ball during the round and be stuck with the "rock". And continue to complain about it.
