Avatar, I understand the near riot that erupted when the accuracy was signficantly degraded on a mishit. However, what DIDN'T happen then was increasing the club distances. If I shanked a drive then, it was 30 yards left or right of where I aimed. However, if I shank one but still hit 250-260 yards (like most pros), I'm not looking at a long iron from the rough, I'm looking at a short iron. As they should be more accurate than longer irons, the results should be similar with a shanked drive and a short iron from the rough compared to a pasable drive on the fairway and a long iron to the green. The biggest thing, however, would be to all but remove the variance/beast/deviation on perfect swings. Speed up the meter and make the deviation amount linear related to the amount of mishit and the need for any preset variance should go away.
I really do understand the accuracy camp's side of this. However, just because the net results are the same doesn't meant it makes it as realistic as possible. This is my baseball fan side of me talking, but just take a look at the stats. PGA Tour driving accuracy in the 60-70 percent range? Here??? Nope. PGA Tour average driving distance about 270-280 yards? Here??? Nope.
And Ketner, I don't necessarily think the solution to be a "red zone" on the meter. Simply increasing the normal club distance but make the meter faster and penalize mishits roughly as is done now would probably make stats more similar to those on the Tour and of good amateurs.
