latest from Leo (phiber):
My Brothers and Sisters,
I waited as patiently as I could all day today for my Oncologist to call with the report on my biopsy and she called at about 7:20 pm. (that girl sure works some long hours). Her name is Amanda Sherrod and she is with Vanderbilt, very smart person and a great attitude.
My biopsy was malignant on the liver. That means the cancer has metastasized and is Stage IV cancer. That means that it cannot be cured by current technology, and, at first glance that sounds pretty bleak. However, she tells me that while it cannot be cured, it can be treated and controlled. I am sure I will get a full definition of “controlled” in the coming days, but as I understand it right now, with Chemo therapy, this thing can be managed so that it doesn’t spread any further and that it stops growing. I am sure I will get a more meaningful definition as I spend time with them over the next few months.
Monday the 3rd, they will install a port that will be used for the infusion of the chemo, as well as taking blood samples for the chemo. That is about an hour and a half procedure and will be installed on my left pectoral just beneath the skin so that infusion is directly into the heart for rapid distribution to the affected areas.
Thursday the 6th will be the first day of chemo and the regimen will consist of two infusions per month with a few CT scans thrown in to see how the stuff is doing. I am excited to get the treatments started and I pray to God in Heaven for successful implementation of the controlled medications.
It’s probably unusual for someone to post something of this nature on a social forum such as we have here, but so many have sent well wishes and prayers that you all are more like family than you are people that I have met here playing virtual golf. The strength of all of you is felt deeply and appreciated. My long time brothers Irish, And Duckster, and my good friend Larry give me extra strength and support that has helped immensely through the “guessing stages” of this battle. I thank you all for that and pray to God in Heaven that each of you is blessed for all your thoughts and prayers.
(My point of telling you this is just to let you know that I will never give up and will be here for a long time to come)
Love to you all
