Tall, handsome, and charismatic at the age of 24, Charles Edward Stuart inspired loyalty among many Scots in a way that the unimpressive James Stuart had failed to do. But Bonnie Prince Charlie, as he was called, was no military leader and proved too callow to handle adversity with the poise of a King.
