GD way before my time...do people still use those ugly looking, trashy, goodwill store, tie dye masterpieces when listening ?

    August 2

1754 - Pierre Charles L'Enfant ~ Anet, France, designed Washington DC....in a letter dated March 1791, Thomas Jefferson wrote the following:

Sir,--- You are desired to proceed to Georgetown, where you will find Mr. Elliot employed in making a survey and map of the federal territory. The special object of asking your aid is to have drawings of the particular grounds most likely to be approved for the site of the federal town and buildings. you will therefore be pleased to begin on the eastern branch, and proceed from thence upwards, laying down the hills, valleys, morasses, and waters between that, the Potomic, the Tyler, and the road leading from Georgetown to the eastern branch, and connecting the whole with certain fixed points of the map Mr. Elliot is preparing. Some idea of the height of the hills above the base on which they stand, would be desirable. For necessary assistance and expenses, be pleased to apply to the Mayor of Georgetown, who is written to on this subject. I will beg the favor of you to mark to me your progress about twice a week, by letter, say every Wednesday and Saturday evening, that I may be able in proper time to draw your attention to some other objects, which I have not at this moment sufficient information to define. I am, with great esteem, Sir, your most obedient humble servant.     ~TJ ~

1834 - Frederic Auguste Bartholdi ~ Colmer, France - Sculptor the Statue of Liberty

ahh, the French ~ Vive ~ and we don't even have a French Avatar--- SHAME on wgt !

1776 ~ The formal signing of The Declaration of Independence by 56 people

    1790 ~ 1st US Census is conducted -- 3,939,214 folk -- 697,624 slaves

    1909 ~ 1st Lincoln Head pennies minted --- I luckily have a 1909 S VDB

    3 August,

While it's not Memorial Day or Veterans Day, I'd still like to elucidate a bit about Ernie Pyle through a few video clips I found.  This first clip is a brief documentary ...

And this brief story written by Ernie Pyle ...

Ernie also wrote "The story of G.I. Joe", which was later turned into a movie and won the Pulitzer Prize for his writing style. If you get the opportunity, read "The story of G.I. Joe", or watch the movie (it's a bit dated) ...

Click here to watch the movie

Pullitzer Prize winning war correspondent Ernie Pyle, August 3, 1900 - April 18, 1945 (killed in combat).

    3 August,

A few more birthdays to share.  First off, Tom Brady, the QB for the New England Patriots is 37 today.

And this singer ... not really that popular in his day by first name, James Hetfield turns 51 ... maybe you'll recognize his band though ...

Martha Stewart is 73 today, and Martin Sheen is 74.  Rounding out the trio of super-FOPs is Tony Bennett, who turns 88 today ... just for SP ... I think my sis did the same thing ... I just like their football team ... and the other one across the bay.  They can keep their baseball team though!

Evangeline Lilly (the Elf Princess from the Hobbit movies and the T.V. Show "Lost")  is 35 today.  Here's some bloopers for your enjoyment ...

A young FYP, Whitney Duncan hits the dreaded three-oh today.  Well, I guess she can console herself in this summer heat by taking a swim  ...

And Ed Roland turns 51 today ... he's the lead singer of this band ...

Lee Rocker, the bassist for "the Stray Cats" is 53 ... here's a cute animated version of his tune, "Rockabilly Boogie" ...

And that's the lighter side of the 3 August b-days.  Have a great day everyone!
