Been contemplating even wasting my time to share my experience with this game, but I do at times enjoy playing.

My background.  Golf Course Superintendent with 25+ years in the business.  Out on a golf course 5-6 days a week.  Been golfing even longer.

I guess my observation after playing this game for a while (Pro Level 33) is I keep expecting the game to be somewhat realistic.  Wind inconstantly affects shot flight.  Long irons stopping in 5 yds.  Wedge shots rolling out 20-25 yds after landing on the green. Different off fwy lies showing a percentage of what to expect of conditions to affect your shot and very rarely being accurate.  Are my expectations unrealistic?  Maybe.  I just see potential with this that will probably never be realized.  Probably issues that are over my head...algorithms and things like that.

I do enjoy the graphics which are obviously from actual photographs.  I can even tell which courses were aerated, sand topdressed, no clean-up pass from greens mowing and other details which is kinda cool.

Just venting, but never going to spend any money on this.

Hope everyone else enjoys the game.

Many people post on here when they are struggling with the game. They blame everything but themselves. You've not even given the game a chance. You've only been here since November and only played 71 ranked rounds.

This is the most realistic golf game there is. The more you practice the better you will get. When you move up levels you will be able to purchase better clubs which will help you. This isn't a point and shoot game. Wind will inconstantly affect shot flight, that is wind. Wind is not predictable. At least in this game you are told the strength of the wind. In real life you are not told how windy it is.

Wedge shots will get easier when you can purchase the better quality wedges. In the meantime, if it rolls out 20-25 yds then allow for that or try a different shot.

This isn't a computer game you can expect to master in five minutes. It's like real golf. How long did it take you to learn that and I bet you are still learning. I'm still learning this game.

The caddie is rarely right. You just have to play as much as possible and get to know your clubs and the courses.

There is a great community on here. Ask for advice and you will get loads of help from people who have been where you are and know the frustrations you are experiencing.

    Good luck.

I'm not so much struggling with the game in the sense most players would, I basing my observations on the 1000's of hours I have personally spent standing on a golf course living the conditions.  Most players won't have the same POV that I have.  I don't expect you to understand.

It's a video game and I expect too much.

    Cheers.

KL, this is as real as they will let it be. If they make it totally real with the equipment they sell us then they will have nothing left to sell. The WGT sell is like fishing, you keep catching the nice ones but you know the wall mount is out there. Getting the picture yet? This is not like the real thing, it is a computer game that can be manipulated as the powers see fit. I have seen it more tonight than I have in a few weeks. It is a game, and nothing but a game, worse yet a computer game. If you expect the real thing then stay on the real grass. This is virtual grass and changes with a click of a button. In my opinion, clicks of buttons by minimal wage computer geek wannabees that have no business doing what they are doing. Other than that you can have some fun here.

Actually KLamb, I understand what you are saying, but can also back up what the others are saying as well. I worked on golf course for about 6 or  7years as an asst supe, spray tech, irrigation tech and all around utility guy who could do almost all jobs around the course

I too notice the tire tracks in the fairways and attribute it to a large fertilizer rigs or spray rigs, or the areas of fairway that have been expanded, or aeration areas, top dressing etc. zi know other people notice it but not like someone who works GC maintenance. Its like when i would go golf at another course and my friends would be saying how nice it was and I would be pointing out every little thing wrong with it.

However, here's the deal. As they have said this is probably as realistic as you are going to get. As you mentioned in your op, its algorithms. At the end of the day its just a 2D game that uses mathematical equations to simulate real golf.  Those equations have limits and can only do so much. The amazing world we live in has the ability to enact 100's if not 1000's of different variables into the game of golf and they are changing sometimes at all times. This game can only simulate a fraction of that.  At the end of the day its just a little avatar that you control with a few clicks of a mouse. I know what you are saying about expecting things but the people who created this game probably never worked on a course and probably don't even play golf that much even if at all.

Take the game for what its worth. Its as close as you will get for now on a computer screen and there are a ton of really good people here with huge hearts that you can have a bunch of fun with when you don't have the time or energy to get out on a real course.

I gotta say if you are a supe and are only out on the course 5-6 days, it sounds pretty cushy to me.  LOL! Just playin. My supe was out on the course and working 7 days a week

Feel free to friend me and invite me for a game.  We can talk about nitrogen phosphorus and potassium

Of course i don't understand KL. None of us on here have ever played golf. What do we know about golf? You are obviously a professional and I'm suprised you have the time to play such a game as this.

I suggest that if you can find a better golf simulation than this, then go and play on it. Otherwise I suggest you go back to living on the golf course.

Just venting, but never going to spend any money on this.

The free clubs and balls you are using do just that, if you want to bang the ball around here they are perfect to do that, but you will never get any kind of consistency from them.

As far as spending money goes they have a free option for that as well, but investment of time is required.

One thing that is consistent here is experienced players who feel the need to dismiss other players and their opinions and observations.  I was making educated observations based on my unique experience that possibly could help improve the game.  Those more experienced players who seem to take an inordinate amount of ownership of this game always feel the need to be in a defensive mode whenever less experienced players comment on the game.   With more experience I'm sure I'll improve.  That is a given.  I play this game as a recreational activity when time allows.  I am not in a position to dedicate myself wholeheartedly to becoming a master player as yourself.

I think part of what I see is how visually accurate the game is and how that part of the game is a pleasure.  The developers have obviously spent considerable time and money working on that aspect of the GAME.  The physical dynamics are just lacking from that realistic POV.

Cheers to you and may your ball always find your hole.
