Hey, im pretty new here (started a little over a week ago and lvl 30/pro).  i think ive played about ~15 multiplayer games so far ranging from 2-4 people per game and there has been ~2 games that i was able to finish with other players.  I've been asking around why people always leave the game and no one has been able to answer it for me.  So im trying to make some sense as to why people leave 90+% of the time in public multiplayer games.  I have 2 theories, so if anyone could point me to the right one (even if its neither of my theories), I'd be delighted.  #1 people are trying to stat-pad their average so that they look like they're a better player than they actually are and leave the games where they dont do better than their average.  #2 they dont like to lose to lower level players.  Could be a mixture of the 2 or something completely different but its starting to piss me off because they end up leaving late in the game usually and i dont get the extra exp for finishing stroke with 2/3/4 people but end up having to spend the time played for 2/3/4 people.  the most recent game i played was the tipping point though (and the reason im posting here).  I joined a 3 player multi and 1 guy left almost instantly after he posted bogey on the first hole and i posted bird, i asked the second guy that had stayed "hey, how come people leave almost every game?" he replied "idk man, but ill stick around with ya."  i said "cool man thx for staying, its been 3 days since i was able to finish a game with someone else on a public game...so you have no idea why people leave all the time?" He said, "nah, but im sure you'll find out soon."  I wasnt sure what he meant by that until he left on his final tap in putt on the final hole (9hole) as i posted up -5 on the par 5 course.  I just dont understand why people (not just him, this isnt the first time) would go to that length to finish the round without actually making their final putt to get a boat load more exp than if they just left.  Anyone else got any theories?  Any leavers out there wanna give some insight to a non-leaver as to why they leave (given that it's not a time constraint or emergency).

As a hack, on your second day at the game, you scored -1 on the front 9 at Merion. Prety good for a newbie. No other accounts then?

nah i came from golfstar, and previous to that i came from shot-online.  i was fairly successful in both games.  my overall golf-game knowledge is probably higher than average because of this fact so i picked this up fairly easy (also just shot -8 on some 18 hole free tournament and currently tied for first....pretty proud of that considering im now on about week 2), just have to get used to hitting that damn rectangle.  it plays a lot more of a factor in this game than any other golf game ive played.

replying to the name "omniscient" -- it is not to be taken literally. ive seen guys with names like "GolfWizzard" and no one literally thinks he is a wizzard that plays golf so im not sure why my name isnt simply being overlooked as just another person's name.  although i do see the irony for a person with my name to be asking a question, its contradictory i know.

replying to the 62% scrambling -- how did you find that? ive been looking for cool extra stats that arent just the basic ones like average par 3/4/5 and average score but havent found where to see it.

replying to ???????? -- there has yet to be light shed on my original post, im still confused why so many people leave games.  any white knights out there care to enlighten me?

His universal infinite awareness, understanding, and insight  is God-like. So my question is, "Why did he need to ask?"

As far as gifted goes, I think we all know what that (gift) is.

    His username speaks volumes.

apparently names in this game are really important lol.  ive been getting a lot of attention for my name in this thread.  it was just the name that i used in golfstar and i couldnt think of a new one so i just used the same one so that if someone from golfstar that i knew played with me, he'd recognize me and maybe we'd carry on our enjoyment for golf games in this one.  i also didnt even know if i was going to play this game for more than a day so i thought "whatever, a name is just a name...its how you play that counts."  i actually almost just put "laskjfdkasdjfl" just cuz i wanted to play, not think for 10 minutes of some clever or witty name for a game that im not even sure if ill play for more than a couple hrs.

Omniscient, as you seem to have a gift for this kind of game I will apologize for my second post.

As for your original question, I will suggest that the other players in your group expect a pro to have a certain level of talent which, looking at your score history, you exceed. So perhaps they feel cheated in some way by your level of competence, or belittled even.

I'm sure we all like to feel, when in a competition, that we have a fair chance of winning and are competing on a relatively level playing field, but if someone in the group has exemplary skills at your tier then that feeling is undermined and the desire to compete disappears.....followed by the player!

↓↓↓  EDIT: Thanks miffers, I've got to an age now where I'm quite content to admit to my errors.  : )  ↓↓↓
