overtheedge:
Congratulations TECC. Thanks to DE for a friendly MP Comp.
I saw this post this morning and was quite surprised by its' contents. To my knowledge the match between roaddawgstyle and jmoney2224 has not yet been played. Given that overtheedge appears to have unilaterally declared his CC the winner of this event I feel obligated to respond on behalf of my club and my players.
Firstly I want to thank all the participants on both teams for making this a fun and competitive event for all those that completed their matches. I selected The Elite CC for this challenge seeking a strong opponent based on the club's bounty of skilled players and given the quality and results of the matches played I can say I was not disappointed. I can also say that everything I have heard from my players about their match opponents has been overwhelmingly positive.
The matches for this tournament were to have been completed by the end of the day on Sunday, February 9. At that time 9 out of 11 matches had been completed and Double Eagle CC was leading 5 matches to 4. The tournament could have been called at that time but given that most of the matches had been completed and the event had been very competitive I was happy to agree to let the final 2 matches be played out to determine the winner. A fair yet risky proposition since Double Eagle had technically won according to the terms of the event agreed to by the organisers and originally posted above. However a much more sporting and honourable choice given it would determine the true winner if all matches could be played.
The 10th match got played within a couple of days with a win for The Elite CC meaning 5 total wins for each team. As well, the remaining match to be played was set to be a classic between 2 outstanding players. However, a couple more days passed and the final match had still not happened.
At that point in our private conversations, overtheedge started pushing to have this event wrapped up, advocating very strongly on behalf of his player and suggesting the reason for the failure to finish lay with DECC. While his support of his club member is commendable it quickly turned into a demand for forfeit. In my experience organizing these type of events I have found that coordinating all matches can sometimes be difficult. Players have lives outside of WGT and circumstances arise. I checked with my player and was assured that they just had not been able to get the match done but was hoping to complete it within a couple of days. I then confirmed the players had made contact (friend list/wall) and attempted to work out a procedure to get the final match played or otherwise determine a winner.
Before a definative arrangement to determine the winner could be agreed to it appears from the above post that overtheedge has declared the match between roaddawgstyle and jmoney2224 as forfeit and his CC as the winner of this event. I am sorry sir, but I do not agree. While you have argued to me that players need to honour their commitments and that this event needs to be completed, points that I agree with, I do not agree with or accept your resolution. I did not forfeit the final match on behalf of my player or my team. I was content to have this event played out but not in this fashion.
If I am correct and the match between roaddawgstyle and jmoney2224 has not been played the only solution is to have all participants honour their original commitments to the terms of this event. That is, all matches were to have been completed at the end of the day February 9, 2014. The score at that time was 5 to 4 for the Double Eagle CC. The winner was and is Double Eagle. I am not declaring a winner only reporting the accurate results.
PS. I do hope roaddawgstyle and jmony2224 play one day and then they will know their result.
