Am an Amateur (79.22).  Need to purchase new golf balls.  Do you recommend a name brand or a WCT brand?

It is all a matter of what you are willing to spend.  I have tried a few of the wgt balls and they are better than the free ball. I am currently using either the taylor made lethals, or the callaway hex chrome level 33+.  both are very nice and won't completely kill your pocket book at 250 credits.  I must say that I am leaning towards the callaway over the lethals.  But, it is a matter of preference.

It depends on whether you're playing on a tight budget or not.  If you have enough credits and want a ball that will really make a difference the L33 Callaways are very good and 250 a sleeve isn't too bad. If you don't have very many credits the Tour SD balls are brilliant value at 65 credits a sleeve.  They don't slow the meter but you're used to that anyway.

Given that you've only upgraded your irons so far though I assume your account isn't overflowing with credits.  You can buy Ping wedges for the price of a sleeve of Callys which would make a big difference to your short game and be a better use of credits.  If you can, consider getting 3 of them and dropping the hybrid.  Having a good short game will really help your scores.

    +1 Sir!

Let me remark though that any custom ball will slow down the meter noticeably compared to the Starters, even those for 10 cr/sleeve. They also provide a plus in precision which cannot be denied.

A while ago I liked the SDs for their tad extra spin and distance but it may be good to start from bottom up.

You have been on this site since Oct. 2011, you have 16 ranked rounds with no AS games & no MP games IMO I'd use starter balls.

LOL! ..... Balls don't deteriorate in between rounds.

If the OP starts scoring better by spending a few credits on balls, maybe the OP will then play more.

I've now reached level 37.  Still an amateur.  See a number of new balls.  What do you recommend.

I see you might be using the TM graphite L15 irons (3 spin and 4.5 meter)

I'd start off cheap and try to match the SPIN with what seems to work for your game.

Then, since those irons seem to have a slow meter already, I'd check a good ball for METER speed compatibility.

I can't speak for you, but I would check these, and test a few during some rounds.

    Srixon Z-STAR Balls (L11+)      spin 2.5     meter  2     -180 cred

If these aren't 'sticking' or if the meter is still a little quick I'd try:

Callaway Vapor (L37+)  yellow   spin 3.5   meter 2.5     -275 cred

(the yellow is good for visibility which is important esp. to a newer player)

If those don't cut it, I'd start testing out ball like the Cally 33 or 34, if you want a more expensive ball w/ a lot more distance I'd start testing out the Nike 61.

But take it all with a grain of salt, you might prefer different ball factors. I had to test out over a half a dozen ball types till I found out what works w/ my clubs and game style.

For an Amateur, I would not recommend any expensive ball because the player's mistakes are probably too important.

Furtheron, it may be considered a waste to select balls of considerably higher level than the clubs are. Those Callies and Nikes can wait...

Excuse me, which importance has visibility in this game?

    - We need not see the landing zone because the game will find the ball for us,

    - shot evaulation is eased by the replay with automatic vapour trace,

    - ???

That would depend on what time of day you play, no?
