  Just watched the dawn service from Gallipoli. I have been there twice, it is a very special and moving place for all Australians, New Zealanders and Turks.

  I went  to  the  11 am  service  to watch the  ever  dwindling  parade  of  my  small  town, sadly the march  grows  smaller  each year , but the  hearts  of those  who attended are  appreciative of the heroic efforts that  were  made  for  our  Country ..........

  I served 8 yrs USAF.....Let us never  forget those who served  now and before us....and let us never ever forget those who laid their lives down for us.

  A famous quote from Ataturk in 1934 poignantly sums up the feelings and did a lot to heal relations between The Turks and The Australians/New Zealanders:

  In 1934 Atatürk wrote a tribute to the ANZACs killed at Gallipoli:

  Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

  My deepest respect to all who served, whether they laid down their lives or not.  The best tribute we all could bestow upon all of those souls, is to teach our children and grandchildren to move forward in peace and prosperity without having to test the dark waters of war.  By no means is this meant to marginalize what's happened in the past, just hoping for a better world for our future generations to live in.
