YankeeJim: What works for me is to focus on the ding line and let the dinger enter your peripheral vision.
Yup this is the way I do it, but still have a pretty low ding rate but I often want to miss either side of the line to counter wind.
But some days I just cannot get the co-ordination going, so recently have reverted to the Max balls - the downside if the number of times I click very early is not good!
Regardless it is possible to score well, last night I shot a 29 and hit the ding 5 times in the 9 holes - including putts.
The important factor is to know what your clubs and ball will do with the various spin applied, then if you can get near the ding you will see better scores.
