How to hit it further?

  What I have found that does help is this. When the wind is say 12 mph going NW...adjust the path a bit more to the right than you normally would, hit the ball/stopping the swing meter just at/before the perfect mark, i.e. left of dead center. This allows, or seems to allow, the ball to float some and give it a bit more distance. I can't take all the credit for this tip since I read it in another post, hit the practice course and tried it out. Took a few hits and restarts, but it does seem to help.

  So basically no matter what you can't hit the fairway on #5 at Bethpage 9 times out of 10.  I can't even reach it with my best smashed, perfect click drive.  Rip off....and I play this course all the time.  You don't have to hit it that far to get to the cut on #5...but that's another story.

  With all the current club and ball technology I strongly disagree with anyone who says that the average golfer only hits it 230.  If you go out to nearly any golf course in America and watch the average golfer tee off the the guy hits it at least 250.  Of couse stats might be distorted if you go on a senior special day...

  Hi Bulldog, I play off 18 and my average drive is 200 - 240 depending on conditions, what handicap would you say an average golfer is playing off?

  You gave me a range and not an average, but I'll try to work with what you gave me. So by your range lets say you hit your best drive ever and you have a 14 mile an hour wind behind you and you're hitting downhill about 20 feet.  You're telling me you're only going to hit it about 240?  That's fine...I'm not judging.  If so you would still be able to hit the 5th fairway at Bethpage or the par 3 3rd because you only need to carry the tee shot 225 to make the fairway at 5 or on 3 (which is 240 to the pin) you only need to carry it 208 to get to the front edge of the green.

  Look I'm not trying to say we should get silly and have the average drive be 300 yards plus, but if you hit the ball with the best swing possible you should at least be able to hit the fairway when it's only 225 yards away.

  I understand making the game harder, but you have to do it through the difficulty of the rough (which is legit in an Open), or making your margin for error smaller on making putts.  Being able to hit a smashed tee shot 215 is a little extreme.

  I agree with you, my best shot would be over 250 but I dont hit it that often. If there was a way that yardage could be added when you score well that would be great and something to work towards.

  Well, when you have some people that can single put 16 of 18 holes and shoot in the low 60's at Bethpage my only questoins is

  why am I in the same tear as them...I had just broke into the prize table for the first time and was bumped to Pro

  and added 13 - 15 points to my handycap...these other guys didn't seem to miss a beat...I had to purchase new clubs

  in order to get below 120 on Bethpage...your drive isn't long enough to reach the fareway on several holes and your

  chipping around the green doesn't work (full swing, perfect on the line click and the ball goes .5 ft ) which adds another

  15-20 strokes per round...the changes have made the game no fun anymore...hitting 15-20 shots per hole is a waist of time.

  I agree with you sky.  I have a couple of my friends who tried the game and said that it was too frustrating not being able to hit the ball any further than 225 with a perfect swing.  They went absolutely nuts when they couldn't even come remotely close to hitting the 5th fairway in regulation.  If you were able to pick up yardage based on how much your scores are improving this would encourage people to play more.  I don't know if WGT is trying to encourage people to buy the upgraded clubs by making the driving distance so short, but if they are it would seem that they are losing more clients than gaining them.  I don't pretend to have all the answers here, but it does make sense to me that your virtual golfer's skill would increase as scores continue to go down.  I could go on with more thoughts on the subject, but I've already spent too much time hijacking the original poster's thread.

  i play scratch and could hit every gir at bethpage without even blinking. (i'm saying i have the distance)

  playing this game as a suck ass hacker who can only hit a driver 225 is ridiculous. I hit my 3 iron that far. the only thing realistic about this game is the graphics. tiger woods on any platform smashes this game.

  This game is not meant for us to play "as pros" and have their ability. They set up the game currently for the so called average golfer on a real course. They are looking into increasing distances as you move up in divisions and move back tees. Hopefully when they do increase distance they also make the power bar speed increase. You have to offset the distance with accuracy. Otherwise we will be playing Tiger on a console and the winning scores will be -24.

  I love the comments by everybody on how far they hit the ball - there is no mention of how many fairways they hit. Think of how worse BP would be if you only hit 50-60% of the fairways. You wouldn't be making half the of the holes GIR - worse than it is now.

  I think people need to just face the fact that some people are really good and have played a ton of rounds to understand the way to score.
