Wiger, I like this option very much.  What top up card do you purchase?

    Thanks

    CanineSupervisor:

Why would you not email WGT Member Services first, PR, and ask them before starting a "brush fire" in the forums?

I'm quite sure...no...positive that WGT CC Transactions are handled in accordance with required industry standards.

"Cracking" (not hacking, as you call it) the game code is considerably different from a security breach, people. Having an Sc.D in EE and Computer Science, I'm not going to explain how people "cheat" as you referenced.

Furthermore, All financial (Credit Card) data goes through a layered https: and nobody is going to "intercept" that encrypted data.

I'm amazed at how many people here think WGT is a mom-and-pop operation..too funny.

Best advice - CALM DOWN. If you store CC (to include PrePaids and Gift Cards) info on your personal computer, remove it, because if there is an issue, that's where the data leak is coming from.

    +1 - Well said in it's entirety.

I think that the question is still valid. Was WGT financial information hacked or not?

LOL. I did at first. This was back in the day when WGTAlex did everything and they only had 9 holes of KIA.   :-D

    PRStevenson:

I've recently heard from several different players that a considerable number of financial files held by WGT have been hacked and information stolen!!!

Is this true? I am not sure if this is a genuine leak of information or just a rumour going around but I'm concerned about WGT having my billing information.

Obviously WGT is vunerable to hacking and cheating goes on all the time but this news is pretty scary if true.

I am less and less inclined to spend money on credits for a company which not only puts profit before it's customers but leaves their financial data exposed to hackers.

If it is true I'm sure WGT are investigating it, though sometimes I wonder how seriously they even take issues like this while people are still purchasing blissfully unaware of the dangers?

Hopefully WGT can respond and shed some light on the situation.

I would first look at the source of the information. In past, we have fake wgt employees spread various rumor. We have also had many others claim to have talked to former or current wgt employees who claimed certain things.

Right now, I am not aware of any breach nor been aware of any breach in the past.

p.s I edited inflammatory title to something else. OP can edit it to something less inflamatory

While I agree with what has been said, and I am pretty savvy about how it all works let me say this..

In my house I have 1(one) pc, hardwired, with every possible security feature that is used solely for financial matters' nothing else is done on it, even has a boot password, not a windows password, a "boot" password, you can't even boot the pc up without knowing it...even I can crack a windows password.

I pay bills, personal and business account information, credit cards, online trading account, etc etc..ANY transaction I do over the net is on that pc with 2 exceptions...

1 is a Visa with a smaller credit limit I use to reserve hotel rooms in advance, 1 is a Mastercard with a $250 credit limit that I applied for to get 20% off a large purchase 10 years ago...I use only for online purchases due to the low credit limit....

The Mastercard is/was my WGT card, hasn't been used anywhere but here in 2-3 years, hasn't been used here for 1 1/2 years, the Visa has never been used here, and even those bills are paid on the secure pc....

In Sept. I was emailed by the card company as someone was using the Mastercard to make online purchases originating in Canada that were denied...I posted about it (several more attempts were made after the post) to warn people as the typical customer service response time is at least a day and a lot of damage can be done in 24-48 hrs....they were contacted with no reply other than automated 1st email....

On the assumption that the breach was on my end, and most of the time they are on the user end, I was very fortunate to get hacked by the dumbest f'n thieves that chose to use the card with a $250 limit instead of cards with $4k, $5k, $10k, personal and business bank account information, kids college fund accounts, among other info, none of which were compromised ....

OR, they got it from hacking another source with that info! Just sayin!

The card company changed the account # immediately FYI, someone obviously had the old one...the others were notified and watched the accounts for suspicious activity that never occurred ...

Pretty savvy indeed, Dan. Well done.

Unfortunately, you are of the minority. Most people log into banking and bill paying services or purchase from websites from a single computer and that info is stored on the system as a ghost image. Then they go about their daily routines surfing the web and whatever else. Many times these people are unaware how easy it is for someone to add a key-logger or some other type of malicious Trojan to most websites, i.e. porn, local businesses, etc., and by clicking on the site you have just allowed access to your system. Now, some wannabe "hacker" has invaded your system. Without your knowledge he/she is retrieving every key stroke you make, looking through your files, reading your emails, etc.

Another trick that CC info thieves is to use a "mag strip reader"  or app attached to their cell phone (much like what a hotel uses to make a room key) and they swipe your CC (you have handed them) thru it right in front of you without you even noticing it.  Now they have captured all the info on the mag strip. That's the reason most gas stations and grocery stores, etc., have gone to user initiated systems whereby you slide your card through the Verifone device.

A large high-end department store caught some unscrupulous employees, using the "mag strip" method, several years ago and has since installed CCTV Cams above each register.

I personally watch the hands of every person that takes control of any of my CC's, and I always use a separate computer for any financial related business.

At a restaurant, where you hand your CC to a server, and they disappear with it, is where I get nervous...Lol !!

Always shred CC bills and especially any document anybody can use to steal your SSN and full name, as well. Nobody is going to spend hours on end trying to tape that stuff back together unless they are with a CSI Unit.
