    Great shot Courteney.

There is a basic formula for a green wedge shot. Haven't used it i awhile. I think it was something like double the yardage then subtract 7.

    26 yards = 54 yards - 7 ....so hit a full wedge 47....it was close to that.

And yes it needs to be a full or punch shot. Chip or pitch won't work ON the green.

What have players found is the best shot when you are on a big green like St Andrews and would rather hit a wedge than risk a 100 ft putt?

    Twat it !

a good rule of thumb would be to take off an additional 10%

from that distance (depending on green speed),

I generally agree. Different from a close putt where I add more power to get the ball moving, in a kind of non-linear way, I will take off some power on a long shot (all depending on conditions) and the, natch, wind plays a big part if it is high enough to affect the ball.

It's a handy shot from places like this.

Or you can putt from that area:

I made the putt from 107 feet....it is doable. I prefer 100 or even 150 meter putts over wedge shots, however, i have on occasion used the wedge in a real uneven green. Just use punch, and double the distance. It will sometimes get you pretty close.

    Cheers...fwys and greens
