Kiawah #18 approach shot

  Something I've noticed consistently and wanted to see if anyone else had seen.

  Approach shot to 18th at Kiawah seems to have a real tendency to go significantly left from where you are aiming.  On a number of occasions I have had a shot with wind from left, pin back left and have aimed dead at pin so wind will push ball right and bounce off up-slope will throw ball back towards pin (I'm usually hitting 3w/3i as off master tees with 245yd driver and starter 205yd 3w/180yd 3i).  Have hit shot right on the ding but ball has set off 5-10yds left of hole and so ended up below green to left or even in bunker.

  Anyone else noticed this???

  From my experience it is key to be right on this green.  Anything left spells disaster.  With that said, the clubs you are using currently have a really low precision rating and are directly related to your problems with deviations.    There is some more information on precision found here...

  Cheers bb, can accept that it may just be the precision of my starter clubs on long shots (nearly leveled up enough to upgrade to TM TPs or G10s!!!) but just seems to have a real tendancy to be in-precise to the left on this shot.  May just be a bad run or perhaps I only notice it when it goes that way.

  Would still be interested if anyone else has noticed anything like this on this shot or whether I am just being paranoid.

  I'm glad you posted this. In my experience, there is a definite tendency on this hole for the approach shot to go left. I've never decided if that's because WGT has set up the beast to favor a pull or if there's just something weird about the angle you're coming in from that makes aiming correctly difficult. I really think the second explanation is closer to being correct.

  Try using the camera behind the green to aim for this shot. This camera angle gives a much better view of exactly where you're aiming (it also shows how aiming at the pin is not a good idea and will frequently result in  going left).

  Anyway, it's not just the starter clubs. I've had this issue with the G10s for some time. I usually aim for the middle of the green.

  Have to agree with you here Dave. Ive noticed this time and again. Im using the raptures, but it still happens.

  I agree with Owen. It's not the starter clubs. It's an illusion of the landscape. Dave, you need to line-up your approach shot so the ball stays just to the right of the flag-stick in flight. If the ball holds that line, and you get the the right distance, you'll land the ball within 3' of the hole every time. The amount of spin you put on the ball will vary depending on the wind.
