    Hi all,

Thank you for reading the following. I'm just thinking out loud and I would appreciate any advice about how I should proceed.
I have been playing since November 2014 and I am L60. Yes I have been playing a lot!

About a week ago I purchased the above named iron set. I can't say I'm impressed. I felt I had more grip on the greens with the Starter Plus irons from 7I down to 4I. In particular the L27 six iron just runs a ridiculous amount that I wonder if it is a defective club.  So the main weakness of my play at the moment is hitting 7I and longer irons to green and the ball not sticking. Now an important caveat is I use the cheapest balls B-ES and B-XD since I simply cannot afford anything upscale.

    My other clubs:
My R11 L29 driver is not a long hitter but it keeps me mostly on the fairway at some distance. My R11 3 wood I'm very happy with.  I'm over the moon about the Ping Gorge L42 wedge since pitching is probably the strongest facet of my game. So its down to my irons and balls. I cannot see any major improvement coming until I do one of the following:

    1. Buy a new Iron set such as the Ping G25 level 59 and sell my current L27 and just see it as a poor purchase on my part. But if I do upgrade my irons will the cheap balls I use stick better to greens or will they just run off like my L27 shots?
    2. Buy better balls in which my L27 irons could stick balls to greens. If you think this option is better which balls (on the cheaper side) would you recommend that will see those 7I and longer shots grip to green with the L27 irons?

I can only do one of the above since I'm not loaded with doe. What do you guys and gals think based on your experience? Thank you in advance.

For better stopping power simply switch to the WGT BE-s ball . The BX-d ball has no extra spin only a tad more distance. The.  BE-s has no extra distance but has avtad more spin and that will help you more at this point than the extra distance will. And a few of the colors of the BE- s cost the same as the  BX-d.

in the long run to save you $ and have balls stick better go with the g25's. if you can handle the fast meter the tour sd balls are good deal esp. with the g25's.

also agree with above post, the bes balls at this stage will help your scores more than the bxd ball ...reason?...a little more spin and control on the all important app.shot.

Thank you for your advice. I use both the ES and XD balls. In fact I prefer XD balls a lot more than the ES balls. I find no discernible difference in spin between the two and I get a lot more yardage with the XD. My low levels irons obviously do not utilise the spin of the ES balls to make a difference. My understanding is the XD and ES balls cost the same.

These remarks are expensive advice that will work for sure.

We had similar report a few days ago about the R11 irons, and I doubt that the Starter should be better than any custom clubs.

My tip: Clear browser & Flash caches to exclude any home-made data confusion. You'll have to repeat your game settings afterwards but it costs nothing.

I tend to agree with Alosso about the caches, especially if you were gettimg more bite with the cheap irons.

Whilst I agree with the G25 remarks, this is expensive and the longer you can wait before another major upgrade the better (on your pocket). In the interim you would be better off having at least 2, probably 3 evenly spaced wedges to fit in below you PW (I am not sure of the distance of your PW).

From TP tees. distance should not be an issue and the cheaper balls like the Tour SD served me well all theough Masters Tier. Usually you approaches will be under a 7I.

Yes the G25 are higher trajectory irons and will give you  more stopping power, but even with these and an OK ball, approaches 3.5I, especially to and uphill approach probably will not stop.

My advice, save your credits to upgrade later, and enjoy the game and challenge in the meantime.

Edit - for bite - buy a ball with 2 dots of spin - they cost a little more and distance should not be a huge factor from your tees, but you will notice a difference.

When you get to Masters Tees - then review your clubs.

I will take alanti and another fellow's advice and upgrade to Tour-SD Balls and just plug along and reassess clubs at Masters stage.

I currently use 3 wedges. The L27 PW (90 yards), Ping George 60 (75 yards), LW starter club (50 yards). The distance spread seems ok.

I wasn't aware of the cleaning the flash cache until it was mentioned here. So I will clean that out regularly in my Maxthon browser.

Thanks to everyone for their great advice.

I concur with that. I use them almost exclusively and although I'll never be a sub-60 average, I'm a respectable legend. Not competitive on the WGT stage, but in my CC I can hold my own quite often.

I think great clubs are the best investment, not great balls; clubs last forever, after all (conspiracy theories notwithstanding).

since pitching is probably the strongest facet of my game.

    Aside from clubs & balls, which are things we all change like underwear, you would be wise to quickly embrace the "punch" & "flop" shot types to your options. With time and practice they will become much more "go to" than the pitch ever dreamed of. I promice '-}
