lonniescott711: Now everyone knows not only can they make the meter better , but they can also make it worse or play how they want it too .
Can't really agree with that one & it deserves an explanation why.
But first, Kudos to the mods & tech team for their efforts to deal with the damage to the meter (for nearly everyone) after the update and also for the communication about it [not instantaneous but much better than their horrific track record in that regard :) ]
Now, back to the meter. A smooth meter is absolutely essential for enjoyable game play on this site (also keeping down costs for replacement mice, moniters, etc. and repairs to walls and other items near the playing area). For the first 2 years of play on WGT I was a dedicated Internet Explorer devotee (I know, weirdo right). The meter was sometimes choppy but usually playable. Odd lost ball due to severe skips but not enough to cause serious emotional trauma. Always blamed WGT for the meter problems (clear cache & the usual blah, blah never seemed to help).
But approximately 6 months ago the game became unplayable due to the jumpy meter. As my addiction/love for the game is strong I made the effort to try different browsers and lo and behold found one that worked well with my system & WGT. With no other windows open the meter became as smooth as silk, much as it seems to be after the fixes implemented Wednesday night. So for me, the meter smoothness has only returned to what I have experienced for the last 6 months (beautiful as it is).
My point & theory is, Wgt does not manipulate the meter (as some of the tin foil hat brigade seem to believe). However, the smoothness of same depends on both ends of the connection having their systems & interconnected points functioning well together. For 18 hours after the Tuesday night update WGT was experiencing a severe fail on their end of the system creating meter problems for virtually everyone. However their fix on Wednesday evening (probably combined with the other changes they implemented in the update) resulted in improved connection/interaction with users (hence the quicker loading & other unintended consequences read super speed green read dots) thus the seemingly improved meter smoothness for just about everyone.
And for the record I am not a WGT apologist just giving credit where some is due and hopefully trying to 'make the forums/community better' with a post that focuses on information rather than vitriol.
Happy hitting everyone. MAX
