    Hey everyone,

New dude here and after spending 30 minutes a day (250-300 credits each session) watching videos I've decided to pony up and actually buy some credits and new clubs.  When I reach level 32 I'm thinking about making the following purchases so any advice, especially from people who have owned/played with:

    http://www.wgt.com/proshop/golf-clubs/drivers/callaway-x2_hot_105_driver_l32.aspx?i=44f6584a-a53a-4803-a9fe-db0c8e292221

And what are peoples opinions in regards to Lower Meter Speeds of 3.5 (compared to my current default set 4/4.5 respectively)   Will the acceleration of 3.5 be difficult to get used too?

I always recommend to new players that wedges should be your first buy. Hang in til you reach L38-39 and there are some nice ATV ones for i think 495 credits each.

There are some cheaper Ping wedges a little earlier as well that a lot of people like.

Dont waste your credits buying new irons or a driver til you really need the added distance.

Thanks for the reply!  Well, I really do need the added distance for all clubs ;), not to mention better precision and spin with my irons.  I took a look at those ATV Wedges you mentioned but their swing speed is Lower (3.0) than I'm looking for.So just a tad bit quicker than I want.

I'm going to match my Driver, Irons and everything else (besides my putter) to 3.5.  I'm not crazy about using a Higher Meter rating of 4 or 5 with my putter because I'll have to get used to a slower in game shot bar.......but what ya gonna do!?

3.5 means they are faster, here are some better ideas:

    Irons - L32 R11s

    Putter - L35 Ghost Spider

Driver - Wait until L48 for the R1

    3W - R11 (L29)

    Wedges - What Tiger said, though best for only the 64W, the 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60 PINGS are 100c cheaper@ L41/L42.

    Dump the hybrid.

3.5 is LOWER than 4.5 ^^.  Meter Speed is the Rating on a scale of 1 thru 5 with 1 being FASTEST and 5 being SLOWEST.  However, I'll definitely look into the wedges!  Thanks!

Wouldn't buy any irons till at least L52 ( nikes ) and would suggest you wait till L59 for the G25''s ( will last you till ya Legend set )

The rest is spot on....though try the L30 manta putter free ? this w/end ?, as I find it easier to work head math in 10's ;-)

And if you do prefer working in 10's then the L51 nike putter is the one to wait for..

    good luck

So far I've only purchased the TaylorMade Ghost Mantra Putter (preferred for the 20/40/60 increments) but I have a few more questions.  I've been holding off on the Driver till level 48 for the TaylorMade R1 which leaves me with Irons (I already know what my wedges/fairway woods will be).

Now then, should I get the TaylorMade R11 (Lvl 32) or wait for the Nikes VR at level 52?   Does the Med trajectory of the Nikes make them OK?  Stat wise I like the way the Nikes look.  They're sitting at 3.5 - 3.0 - .5 - 3.0 - 3.5 vs TM at 2.5 - 3.5 - .5 - 3.0 - 3.5.

Last question, when you reach say level 64 and own the Nike VRs do you still have to pay the full price for the level 64 Nikes?, or do you simply pay an upgrade fee?  R11s (32) seem like decent clubs but you can't get the next generation of R11 till Lvl 90.

Nothing horrible about that but if you're able to simply "pay" an upgrade fee instead of full purchase price for the Nikes (which have upgrades at Lvl 64, 85, 97 and 100) then I can see the merit in choosing them over TaylorMade.

    Help, comments please!  ;)

I'd recommend buying wedges before irons. Getting the approaches close means fewer putts.

When you unlock a level, you can purchase those items at the price shown in the pro shop.  You are never "upgrading" your clubs, even when you have the same set that was available at a lower lvl.  You buy new ones, and then own both sets.

I played the Nike lvl 64 vapors over the free weekend and prefer my Ping G25's from lvl 59.  I'm still using the G25's, until I can buy the lvl 85 Nike VR's.  The high trajectory makes a big difference in your shots, softer landings mean less roll.

I don't think you would notice much difference with the 3.0 compared to a 3.5 meter speed on wedges.  I used the lvl 38-39 ATV's until I was about lvl 79 or so, and then bought the new Cleveland wedge 588 RTX's available around  lvl 74 soon after they came out.  The backspin on them is amazing, even with balls with minimal spin, like the WGT G12 S of G13 S. I never tried the lower level Clevelands, so I don't know how much spin the have, but I've read players talk about it being higher also...the are just more spendy.

I agree with everyone who said get wedges first.  Better short approach shots means you are closer to the pin.  Keep track of your Average Distance to the Pin in your round stats.  The lower it is, the shorter your putts are, and the better chance you have of making par, or less on each hole.

If you look at the equipment shown on a players profile page, it will give you an idea as to what clubs higher tier players are using.  Finding players of your own tier will do the same thing...I think of it as comparison shopping by checking out the competition.

    Good luck,

    Phred952
