RIP Richie Benaud

  Was never a fan of cricket until this just finished World Cup. Some of our CC members were very patient with us, explaining rules and strategies. Now that i understand it, what a great game. If we weren't staying up late watching, i was finding myself checking scores first thing in the morning.

  Sorry to hear such a great man and fan favorite has passed.

  Always sad. I don't know much about the game and wonder if Richie is included in conversation with Bradman ?

  He was the voice of Cricket Lily and had such a classy manner!  True Gentleman. RI P  Richie.

  Richie Benaud interviewed Sir Don Bradman in the early 1980s and asked him how he would have fared against the current crop of bowlers and Sir Don replied that he probably would  have averaged about 60.

  Benaud responded to that reply by telling Sir Don that he was too modest. And Sir Don replied, “Yes I am, Richie. But after all I am almost 80 years old!”

  Bradman finished his Test career with a mindboggling average of 99.94.

  Great idea to create this on the Forum - he truly was a legend and an absolute gentleman (I was privileged to get the chance to meet him many years ago)

  His commentary was always great to listen too - probably my favourite was when Glenn McGrath was out after scoring just 2 runs - Richie in commentary said - 'Glenn McGrath out for 2 , just 98 short of his century'

  Gone but certainly never forgotten - RIP

  Ritchie quite liked Billy Birmingham's impressions.. as long as they were clean.

  Richie was simply MARVELOUS!

  He was the first player in the history of test cricket to score 2000 runs and take 200 wickets.........

  From a commentating point of view...he was a bloody genius. He abided by the principle of letting the picture tell the story when ever possible

  One of his trully great moments was Warne's first ball in England at Manchester

  His commenting of that delivery and Gatting's response to getting bowled was BRILLIANT
