Directors,  I understand "rules are rules"  and it is hard to understand for most of us why you would tell teammates "yes I will play" and in the first week bug out on them!   In my business that is a Royal A**HOLE.  We should of had an alternate for each team, there are things that can legitimately happen to keep you from playing.  if each team could use that alternate to substitute prior to the week's competition start it would be fair, more work for you but fair. Europe and USA would never go into the CUP without more players than are playing on a given day.  Injuries happen!  Computers break down, people have to work extra hours, internet connections fail.

My last plea for 5 very good guys who deserve better than they got from their one teammate!!!!!!    Think about it!

There were important sport titles won or lost because of injuries or just luck. Nobody never asked to play it again. That's life, that's sport. After that, personally I should concede to substitute the player for another round. Not for the running round. Byeeee

P.S.: ALBERTO, right now the spreadsheet with the results, is completely out of order. Ciao

I doubt the rules will be changed now the comp is in full swing but perhaps suggestions to improve future tournaments.  It's a shame in this case as it just takes one person to ruin the other 5 in the team.

I thought the Grand Prix format was spot on.  You didn't need alternates, they just took the best 5 scores from the 8 man team.  In this 6 person team scenario you could take the best 4 or maybe 5 scores.  Gives a bit of flexiblity for the odd occasion where it's not possible to post a score.

    Another conditions question:

One of my players of White Rabbits has been missing all week - no sign, no message. Provided we get into the bracket without his contributions, may we nominate a replacement player?

I'm sorry but it is not possible.

    OIC. I accept your decision.

Rules are rules, and if there's no replacement clause then there is none.

It would be fortunate for us if it would be different but the subjunctive has no say.

Your argument of trustworthiness is a tad harsh though.

You know nothing about this guy or about our CC. There may be work reasons or technical problems or simple fate. No reason to postulate anything.

You guys do an excellent job leading this tournament.

Please let us mind our business.

There were 3 weeks to put a team together for this comp with changes allowed up until the Friday before we started.

As of now out of 270 players - only 14 have failed to post any score.

The rules were clear from the start, there was flexibility to change right up to the off and it's only a six week competition if you go all the way to the finals.

If someone drops out after the start in a hissy fit in week 1 it would seem to display a real lack of commitment.not only to their CC, self respect but also the competition.

Sorry guys I appreciate your position but no sympathy.

What would you suggest if the same situation arose each week? By week 6 there could be  a completely different team and how would the organizers deal with the changes in name and Average for the knockout stages?

I'd not have asked if my mate would have played one shot in the competition.

But now, fortunately, he's back and has played at least the singles.

Urgent family affairs were the reason for his absence.

True commitment, to be treated with utmost respect.

    My nickel.

Sarak362336, all I suggested is 1 alternate player not 6.  Once you substitute for the week it is done for the week. You guys in Europe shut down for vacation in August, we in the USA start vacations in June and July over the school holidays for our kids.  An alternate would not be out of the question.  Due to my vacation I only had a week to put this together as well, not 3 and that can be verified by notes I left on this site twice!

If our 5 players qualify for the final 36, then we will play with 5.  Those are the "rules" and there shouldn't be disqualification because of it!.

    Hello everyone!

Seems like a lot was going on while I was checking on our Leprechauns... the spreadsheet should be OK now.

RichJohn, no one is going to disqualify a team because one of the players did now show up this week... playing with one less player is enough of a penalty... and I'm really sorry, but we can't make exceptions.

Alosso, sorry if Carlo comments seemed harsh, I am sure he did not mean to be that way, as he is not very well versed in english, and that might add to the mix.
He just wanted to point out that, since there will be no substitutions allowed, it is important every player knows that the team depends on all of them.

As per the Knckout bracket pairings, we already mentioned this time we favored the most credit earning Country Clubs, which also focuses more on avoiding teams from the same CC to be matched at the first round of the Knockouts.

The qualification round was something we actually did not intend to do, but we felt to give all the teams the opportunity to be in this competition.
We will definitely keep your comments in mind for the future, but we can't change rules now that the tournament is running.

And AnnaSwing... nothing is really decided until you play... that's why we play the tournaments :-)

Rich - just pointing out what a problem any sub would cause.

Teams are ordered in alphabetical order - to play their opposite in 9 hole single

by wgt average/rank for 9 hole Multi

    and

    average/rank 1&6 2&5 3&4 for 18 hole

so where do you put the sub?

    No hard feelings   Sara

Absolutely no hard feelings, I just felt as captain of my teams I had to ask and put forth the best argument I could.  I respect these guys that run this, it is a tremendous amount of work and provides us old timers with an adrenaline rush we don't get very often any more. You guys are the best and I appreciate your time and work you put in to make these competitions happen.  Like I said my last shot at this!  GL e1
