    Now RUGBY! Sign me up!

+1 to that! I've tried watching soccer only to see what is so worldly intoxicating about it and for the life of me, I can't although the hooligans in their prime made it curious. The vuvuzelas were curious for a minute, too.The end of the game is lingering death because only 1 guy knows how much time is left after the clock runs out. WTF is up with that?

Now, rugby is something else. Didn't know a thing about it until my college son joined a team (he was a #8 forward.) The first game I ever saw was so confusing in the first half but by the end of the game I got it. Watching a few practices and having the boy clue me was all it took and now I'd really like to see rugby here on the same scale as American football. Rugby players could own most NFL lineman.  :-)

Sorry for the interrupt, back to the nuclear waterfight.  :-D

To this point my worthy adversary has been a proponent of jingoism, colonialism, prejudice and superstition...not the easiest of positions to defend.  My part has been simply to shoot the fish she's been kind enough to place in the barrel.

Right you are!!! Catch Aussie Football, if you can. It's Rugby on Crack!

    Way fun. But soccer??? ZZZZZZZZzzzzzz!

I promised a Cousin that I'd watch an entire match. Thirty minutes in, I watched a fly that was caught behind the blinds. Fly was more entertaining than "The Match." Of course, afterwards, I killed the Fly!

Well anyway any top sports person practices a lot on the way, LOL.

Found one little stat those that think football (soccer to those in yesteryear still) is boring.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and ignorance is sweet bliss, lol, but the beuatiful game does OK:

the biggest games in the world are:
    1. The UEFA Champions League Final
    2. The Super Bowl
    3. The World Cup

Hasten to add no clue how accurate that one stat is, but all big events.

Just in final day as I saw it........Look argue the stats all day and figures for the entire comp the World Cup wins hands down.  Well I think it does, and frankly who cares as so many like many great sports including NFL, Baseball, Football (soccer if you must), Rugby, basketball, cricket etc..I know naught about NFL and therefore find it incredibly boring.  Had I grown up with it, and understood it I am sure I would find it super and that would go for some who think football (soccer) is boring the other way around I am sure.

Any Rugby World (union) Cup year and a great sporting occasion to look forward to.  Two codes of Rugby and Union does it for me over Rugby League.  Now a good game of Union is fantastic but by golly a bad game of it is crap and then some more.

Rugby Union at it's best though is superb:

I have no thoughts on the 4th Reich or Jesus or any of that stuff:)

    It is much less simple than that. I love America only. It is my home. I appreciate the Constitution and Bill of Rights. I obey them. I will freely give my life to protect them. I admire hard work. I love freedom and my right to pick and choose anything I please within the law. People, places, things, beliefs. Anything that disturbs this lifestyle is not welcome. I hope this helps you ;-}

The Constitution is there to limit government, you don't have to obey it, the government does.  I love freedom and admire hard work just as you do.  I appreciate your endeavor to help me and I know you're a kindhearted person just from our brief encounters in the forum.

I guess the main difference is that I love the planet, not just my country, but that's okay, you don't have to love anyone or anything that doesn't suit you.

I really do enjoy sparring with you, Lily...helps to break up the monotony of reading about the latest wgt conspiracy.

    ;-)

This is turning into a very interesting thread.  Slightly off topic but entertaining.

I guess I can see him hitting 1,500 in a day, every now and then, but not every day.  Sure, he may be able to pick up a ball, drop it, pick his target, line up, wiggle his butt, swing, hit the ball and watch it it land within 20 seconds.  Just.

But all day, every day?  A rate of 3 per minute is 180 per hour which will need 8.20 hours to play them all.  Then add lunch, toilet breaks, moving to the pitching and putting practice area, occasionally asking Fanny why she thinks a shot didn't work quite as intended, there are a myriad of little things that all rob you of a minute here and there.

Occasionally, sure, I imagine he did whack his way through 1,500 balls but I doubt it was his normal routine.  I imagine even someone as physically robust as him would struggle to do that on a regular basis.

And nothing of what I've written is intended to knock Sir Nick, I have huge respect for him and his ability.  I also think very highly of him as a human since watching a program dedicated to Seve a while ago and seeing Nick have to take 2 goes at speaking to camera due to the emotion of the situation.  He's not the heartless terminator he sometimes appears to be.
