I'm very sorry, RyanSelwyn, but I must withdraw myself from the 2009 WGA Tour season. You have come up with a great idea, but it is very loose, too loose for me. There have been many issues that have taken place, and frankly I haven't seen all of them be addressed. The fact is, RyanSelwyn, you are not online enough to take control of such a large-scale series of tournaments, in my opinion. There are also a few things I would like to bring up that could be improved.

    1. You allowed us to make our own groups. This has not worked out for somebody like me who does not know many people here on WGT. I asked a few people who have signed up to be in a group with me, but they all said that they didn't want to play on the WGA Tour. Maybe the problem was that the sign-up period was too long, or that you didn't remind people who had signed up to play or drop out. So I was forced to play a round by myself, and you didn't have any verification of it - I could have played a practice round and said I shot a 58. (I actually shot a 73 for the first round.)
    2. The time period for the tournament is not specified. I played my first round on Thursday, but nobody reminded me to play more rounds over the weekend. I didn't remember to play two more rounds until today, which means that, RyanSelwyn, you did not adequately remind sign-ups to play. This is the same problem as No. 1, in which people who signed up in the early stages that this was created forgot when the time came to actually play, and this made a very disheveled tournament.
    3. Because of the loose time period for the tournament, the cut line was not accurate. If I had shot another 73 in the second round, I would have been +6, and would not have made the cut. But you made the cut on Saturday, as you should have, and that meant people like me who had only played one round made the cut even if we didn't deserve it. In fact, this is ironic because if I had shot a 73, you, RyanSelwyn, would have made the cut! If people were told that they had to play on Thurs./Fri., and they had groups and tee times that they had to make or they would be DQ'ed (of course these could be changed for things like time differences), then you could have had everybody play their first two rounds on time, and make it look like a real professional tournament.

Maybe that's why I'm not crazy about what is currently going on with the WGA Tour - it doesn't look professional. I know that you, RyanSelwyn, have come up with a spectacular idea that can work very well, but something as ambitious as an entire tour deserves a little more time spent answering questions and fixing issues and setting up tee times and letting people know when to play and verifying rounds and a whole host of different issues. You have not shown that you can do all this on a daily basis, and this is why I do not feel comfortable spending my time playing rounds for the WGA Tour. So once again, RyanSelwyn, I, gaoerfuqiu, have withdrawn my card from the WGA Tour. You may disqualify me from the current PGA Championship and all other future tournaments during the 2009 season. Thank you for putting together a wonderful idea, and I hope you take these suggestions and make improvements to your system.

    gaoerfuqiu:
you did not adequately remind sign-ups to play.

I only wish I could remember a community-organized tournament I joined weeks ago! I've never played a round in it, because I simply can't remember which tourney it was that I joined, and it looks like dozens of other community-organized tournaments popped up in the meantime. So I agree with Gaoerfuquiu, reminding tournament participants via emails or messages (which is the same thing here on WGT.com) is a must for the tourney organizer. I wish I could withdraw, too, from that tournament I joined all too hastily weeks ago, but I just don't remember what tourney it was (it had a wiki page as its homepage, perhaps someone can direct me to the right address; maybe it was even this very WGA Tour?).

    RyanSelwyn:
Id love to see you go through 75 profiles and remind them all to remember the tournament..... use your brain, how long would that take.

Not long if you made it a condition for players upon enrollment to supply their email address. Then you could send out email reminders & newsletters. Look at the fabulous way Mark Holliday has been running the Ladder games & tournaments. He has a whole site devoted to the project; one can see he has years of practical experience in running online golf tournaments. One of the things he does is send regular email newsletters to all site users, of which there are probably more than 75. Most recently, he's even published a site manual for his users.

    RyanSelwyn:
The link to the wikispace was on the front page the whole time maybe you just need to look harder.

Ah, it was, right? But it isn't there now, so...? Criticism justified?

    RyanSelwyn:
and if all you are going to do is fuss and moan... WITHDRAW i dont need you in my tour.

Thank you for the friendly words. I suppose there's no WITHDRAW button or form anywhere, is there? If not, I'm withdrawing through this forum post. At any rate, good luck in running the tour, Ryan, it's definitely an ambitious project & I really liked its initial setup on the wiki page!

RyanSelwyn, you have no right to go through such a rigorous process making an entire tour with 75 people if you're not going to put any effort into it. You even admitted your terrible organization this week. If you don't want to put in the time that it takes to run a 75-person tournament every week, then don't! But don't waste our time with this looseness. The PGA Championship this week had about 20 people participating out of 75 people that had signed up. Nobody remembered because you didn't remind them. Maybe you should have gotten somebody to help you - I would have been more than willing to help you with the organizational stuff that is crucial to running a successful tournament. And we're only fussing and moaning because this tour has been inadequate on so many levels, and that's not our fault. So like I said, I'm withdrawing, and Faterson is as well. RyanSelwyn, every tournament and series of tournaments have problems, but the key is to cut them down as much as possible. You'll always have people fussing and moaning about something they don't like, so if you wanted every one of them to withdraw you'll have very few people participating. It's like Faterson said, the idea looked great on the front page, but it's gotta work the whole way through, and it hasn't so far. Thanks again.

P.S.: Please spell my name right. "gaoerfuqiu" is how you say golf in Chinese.
