JJ656: I think it would be fun if WGT could maybe set up a weekly tournament where the putting grid is disabled. It would really test the old wgt memory bank.
Throw in an uneven lie one too....see some closer to realistic scores:)
This is a great suggestion JJ, and I hope it's taken more seriously this time*.
And I wish it would go further, and offer an uneven lie version with disabled lie indicators, which would, after all, be more like real golf. You'd have to watch the run of the ball as it slows to a stop on the fairway after your tee shot and try and judge what direction you'd have for your resulting lie.
It sounds impossible but is actually doable and great fun, forcing you to pay attention more rather than play on autopilot.
This actually happened for about a day or so when there was a snafu with an update a couple of years back, and I looked back to find the detail...
The August 2013 update inadvertently broke the Uneven Lies display: see my 7th post on this page of the update thread (just after one by the legendary Phiber, who sadly just passed):
Corwyn: Cerino and I just kicked it around on Merion with starters and blind unevens (from the Whites with Fast greens and Mod wind). It was quite the challenge, almost like relying on muscle memory to guess what the slopes were going to do.
That said, I managed to get round in par, with CD close behind. Our better ball would have been -4!
I joked to Cerino that perhaps WGT would provide this as an option in the future: the choice to play unevens but with no visual grid to work from!!! Fantastic!

* I made a similar suggestion about the putting grid almost 2 years ago in one of the 'craziness' tourney threads:
Corwyn: One dream I've had about increasing the difficulty in the game play, is to do something that was an option in the Links game years back, namely to turn off the putting grid entirely. Just as it was tremendous fun to play blind unevens for a couple of days a few months back when a bug meant you couldn't see your lie properly, I can imagine it would be a fantastic challenge to putt blind, essentially from memory. I bet we'd be quite surprised at how well we could remember the breaks.
Icon wasn't very enthusiastic, suggesting that he thought it would be too hard and would take the skill away... but I disagree and suspect there are many players who would relish a different kind of challenge to add some spice to their weekly tourney diet.
How about it, WGT... Can you give this idea some serious consideration?
