Badly thought out spread of distances there. People will still need a 50/60 yarder so buying these will mean you're splitting up your wedges. Then you'll have to plan your spin and distance differently for each club, sorry I can't be bothered with all the fuss or I would have bought some.

There are actually 5 Cleveland wedges available 75, 80, 90, 100, and 115 yards. Perhaps a 100 would fit your bag better.

    zagraniczniak:

Strange, I would chuckle just a bit except of course for the tragic loss of a Callaway ball and wrecking your round and so on.

    (chortle)

Now the laugh's on me. Perfect 80-yard wedge at St. Andrew's, full backspin on the Cleveland 60 wedge, lands next to the hole and backs up 10 yards, lucky to make par.

Please don't say mañana if you don't mean it!

There's ur reason for 115 yards. Full backspin on that club with a straight side wind probably goes an average of 105 yards. I could hear the griping now if it only went 110 or 105 making the backspin useless on a lot of occasions.

There are 3 lower-ranked wedges (75, 90 and 105 yards) and 3 higher-ranked wedges (80, 100 and 115 yards), but the lower-ranked wedges have less precision and less spin so we have focused on the higher-ranked ones here in this post, I think.

Unfortunately WGT has repeated the confusion with the Satin wedges and some other lines of clubs where they have identical names (and loft numbers) but different attributes. There should be clarity in the product line. The pro shop is daunting enough for beginners without having identical model names for different clubs.

Having played a few rounds now with 2 of the new wedges, I am of the thinking that you can have too much of a good thing. I am playing these with no spin and it's stopping dead. I cannot see how using full backspin would be the normal shot with them, the spin really is so severe. Good to have it in rescue situations but I certainly will be using it with caution....

I am thinking these wedges will shine with back spin when your trying to stop it with no room to work on the green and its an uphill shot. say like bethpage #2 or a downhill shot where you only need a 3/4 shot and a normal satin wedge will not stop that dead quick on a 3/4 or so shot.

" short lofted club (50-60 yards) and make this a complete set."

YES, YES, YES, a resounding YES! The 115y is indeed virtually pointless, and a 60y would have been great instead. As it stands, I use, like, and struggle with the 80y as my short wedge. The spin is off the chart, and needs to be used with considerable discernment. Out of sand, I have yet to figure it out.

Maybe the greatest advantage of the increased spin will be achieved from close bunker shots or rough, in fact I would like to hear from users that have tried those and read what they think.

I will stay away from them at this stage as I have learnt from SM experience.

So let me see if i got this right. You pay almost 900 for a club that with your old wedge would have left you about 2 ft from the hole to a club that landed 2 ft from the hole and back up so much you lost a 1 dollar ball in the water maybe 15 ft backwards on a flat green?   I would HATE to see that shot on Oakmont # 2.   The thing may just back up to the tee  lol

    Is that right?   :)
