GolfKid90210 (or something like that) and I have had a little bit of fun recently playing a one club game - driver only for every shot; tee, fairway, rough and green.  the only exception is if you're in a bunker, then we use a 3i as a driver will not hit the ball out (unless someone can prove otherwise).

For bragging rights only (as there is no way we can ensure or prove that players only use the stipulated clubs), if anyone is interested in having a go, post your scorecard here.

The game should be set up as Practice on St Andrews front 9 off red  tees, easy pins, very fast greens and low winds.  Also, to not waste a good ball make sure you change to starter balls.  Any type of driver can be used; I normally use the L62 R9 driver and GolfKid uses L32 Ping Rapture.

Pars and birdies, and even possibly eagles, are all possible... as are 10's!  The 2nd shot on #1 at STA is interesting and GolfKid has got it down to a tee.  And the 9th is a definite birdie opportunity.  Last time we played we each scored around 52, 16 over par.  It's best to play in pairs as the game can take a while and you can also learn from your partners shots.

If we can come up with a way of verifying clubs used then we may consider prizes in the future, but for now it's just for fun.

Have fun and hope to see some scorecards.

    Well, here's a start...

2 birdies!!!  I can go 9 holes with a full set of clubs and not get 2 birdies!  And on both the 5th and 9th I only fractionally missed the putts for eagle.

    A few tips:

    1)  I used the L47 Ping Rapture driver.  I think the extra loft helped to get it in the air a little better than the R9.  Even a Starter driver would probably be better than one with little loft.

    2)  The Ping driver maxes out at about 40yds when putting, much more than the R9 driver.  And 40yds is an easy number to work out lesser distances.

    3)  I managed to hit the 1st green in 2 (and yes, I 4-putted as I wasn't used to it yet) by laying back off the tee then being able to hit a longer 2nd shot and therefore getting the ball bouncing and over the burn.

    4)  On the 7th you need to thread a way between the bunkers onto the green.

    5)  On the par 3 8th use the path down to the green to a) get to the green and b) slow the ball down. (I unfortunately ended up in the fescue but managed to get out in 2 more shots).

Have fun and see what you can shoot.

PS  I forgot to save the putting stats just to prove no putter was involved.

Small thing here, and I'm sure most people already know this, but make sure to use the punch shot with the driver when putting.  Otherwise, you get a nice shot that goes absolutely nowhere.

    This is how you do that pesky 8th...replay.aspx?ID=f3a88731 2b7d 46ed 8092 9ec5017a2499... and I made the putt replay.aspx?ID=cf74a92c 7a5b 43f3 9623 9ec5017ad2bf

Glad you both enjoyed it Helen and Mohuyu.

By the way, nice shot on the 8th Mo; you've got to be inventive, that's the name of the game.  Did you use the red tees because I didn't realise they aimed straight down the path?

If any of you fancy another go some time, just send me an invite, I'd love to join in.

Just played the front 9 at oakmont.

Settings Tees: Red(Easy), Green Speed: Slow, Wind: Low

Rules: Driver on every shot except bunker and any type of rough, 3 iron allowed there.

Was some fun, despite a 9 at #8, finding one of those bunkers and failing multiple times to get out with the 3iron^^

If anybody wants to play with me, just write a post here or at my wall, always ready for this fun^^
