how far does everyone reckon a ball should travel out of a 30-40% lie in a bunker with a 115 yard G10 pw with a 14mph tailwind, i'd love to hear opinions on this, my dinged shot went no more than 70 yards straight into the weeds and of course the result was a lost ball, what a load of ***........... i'm sick of wgt screwing with players shots to cause us to buy extra balls than we need to, i and every other player on here spends enough money already.

That's probably a pretty good result. I never hit anything but wedge from 30/40 or worse sand.

that seems about right to me, its always safe to hit back to the shortest path to the fairway for a safe shot with a 35/40 % bunker lie, or thats what i would do,

i'd say that was actually a good result for the club....but bad judgement on your part.

Like not aiming properly. 30/40 sand is your basic get back into play lie. It sounds like Kia 4's fairway trap got you and if you don't move the aimer to the right place you get weeds. Just a WAG.

    115 x 30% = 34.5     115-34.5= 80.5

    115 x 40% = 46         115-46  = 69

Ball will travel between 69 and 80.5 yds

    Math  silly  eh!

Interesting use of the rough %s there, Alum. Is it pretty consistent?

It is a good way to determine the "MAX" distance. This post sounds like a judgement error. I hit G10'a and I have used PW from 30-40% sand and guess what the ball travels 70-80 yrds. Find a safe place to land

Yardage was about right on the money ... problem was most likely trying to do something heroic. My first rule ( which I wish I adhered to more often) .. don't turn 1 mistake into 2.

Very interesting use of the percentages .. i wonder if that works all of the time.    I was "taught" that the percentages are ... the percentages shown are what percent of the ball is covered by rough, sand, fescue, etc.    So a 10/15 sand shot means a small percentage of the ball is covered ... and 30/40 is more like a "fried egg" shot.    Same in the rough.     I am not sure it has to do with the math .... but if it works ... that's great.
