There's been a few posts on here with guys asking how the R11 Hybrid does out of the rough. I'm posting a replay to show just how phenomenal it is. Also, I've had a couple of 60/70% lies on CCC and punched it out with the hybrid 130 or so. Incredible.

This is a result of the meter stopping short on me during my drive on hole #14 at CCC. Ended up way left behind some trees in 30/40% rough. I aim right of the front bunker and hit just before the first meter line to try and draw it around the trees in front of me with full backspin. For those that don't want to watch the replay the yardage on the shot was 200 with I *think* was 19ft up elevation.

LIke I said I was playing around at CCC with it and hit out of 60/70% rough on #4 after missing the fairway right. The lie where you can only see the top 1/4 of the ball. Gave it full backspin and whacked the $%&# out of it. Ended up going around 120-130 yrds. PW is the highest club I've ever had luck getting out of 60/70% and get any yardage.

I agree Dar Sum. I love my R11 Hybrid and I love the R11 3 wood even more.

Can't wait to get the R11 driver in my armoury. What a great set of woods.

    Give us more like these gems WGT P L E A S E !!!!!!!!!

While all the reviews of the R11 Hybrid are great, my thought is what would I take out of my bag that I don't use more than I would use the hybrid.  I have a 95/75/60 yard wedge that I use much more than my 3 wood or a 3 iron.  My fairways are over 80% so I only miss about one per nine and pretty much the same for greens but I do have times when I have shots from 50 to 80 yards during the rounds, sometimes 3 or more.  Sounds like a sweet club if you could take out the 3 iron.

You nailed the problem there. I replaced my R11 3 Wood with the Hybrid for a round on Constitutional. As it was my first round there I hit the rough a few times, the Hybrid got me out of some really deep stuff on some holes but on the long holes I missed the 3Wood badly. I wish they'd change the rules of golf to allow 15 clubs, who would it hurt?

THR, I've thought long and hard about making the switch to another wedge and ditching the Hybrid or 3 wood but I just cannot bring myself to do it with the way I play my wedges. I use the G10 PW for 120-85, the Cleveland for 90-50, and my TM for 53 and below. All depending on wind, lie etc etc....I guess I just don't have a gap down low like I feel I do in the longer clubs if I were to make the switch.

Just easier and more accurate choking down my wedges than it is to choke down fairway woods or a driver for longer par 3s. I guess I'd rather miss by 2 yards with my wedge than miss by 10 with my fw woods. Hope that makes sense lol.

It's unbelievable how much I've used that club on CCC. But I also use the 3 quite a bit there, too. Hole #2 comes to mind.

I do however agree with you about ditching the 3 iron. Mine rarely sees daylight since I can hit the hybrid 210-220 with one movement and it stills bites extremely well. Unlike that possessed 3 iron.

How's the qualifying rounds going for you? I'm in as of now by one stroke. I went into 18 today needing par for a 61 but I spazzed on my second shot and pulled it into the drink. Would love to blame the meter but that one was all on my finger not cooperating with my brain.

Congressional proves once again how important it is to think carefully about how to stock your bag each time you start a round.

Notwithstanding the unanimous advice from the top players to use three wedges and drop the hybrid, at Congressional I am so far going back to the "factory setting" of the 3W (R11), hybrid (R11) and two wedges (Cleveland 80 and 100 yards).

Not only is the R11 hybrid a lifesaver out of the rough, it is also perfect for the approach on a few holes at Congressional (the 18th, to mention just one). But the 3W is also important to have in order to advance the ball on the par 5s (or maybe reach the green), to drive a couple of holes, and also to reach one of the long par 4s.

Frankly i don't get this "lifesaver out of the rough" thing. The punch shot with R11 3wood goes as far as anything even from 40% rough, while the new burner 2.0 3iron is almost as long as a hybrid.
