30 mph winds? Really? I understand Saint Andrews is windy, I get that. But 30mph? Typhoon on the way or something? How could you even tee up with that kind of wind? Long tees and there is no way in all hell that ball would even stay on the tee!

either you don't play real golf or you lead a very sheltered existence.  in high school we played in winds approaching 50 mph in some tournaments.  It's just something you deal with. The scores might be higher, but it's the same for everyone.

I recommend manning up and learning to play the wind.

Lol, you mean in navy seal training? Just stop it!  It's hard to stand up in 50 mph winds! Much less walk or play golf!

The punch shot is a must in those winds just to keep the ball somewhat on line.  But you knew that right?

I played in my local men`s day tournament today , local cause next to the ocean can get very high winds there. was 30+ for sure.

At ground level it`s not to bad (deal with it) , It`s once the ball gets above the tree`s when the major movement happens.

    Same for all players

Come to Kansas. 30mph winds is normal during the Spring months. Not STEADY 30mph. Normally it's 20 mph gusting to 30-40mph.

20-30mph is normal for St Andrews right by the sea front on even a nice day it can be 20mph… I like playing in high winds it calls for more skill rather then good equipment. more punch shots and what we call the old Scottish run ups.

Have you ever watched open golf where some days it gets up to 40mph.

changeable conditions make the game better some times low winds some times high winds after all its the same for everybody.

You should try playing in Lethbridge or Medicine Hat (Alberta, Canada).  Wind speeds of 40+ mph are very common.

Playing down there I've hit a 200+ yard wedge, and a 150 yard 3-wood....both shots hit with a full normal swing.....the wedge with the wind, the 3-wood into it.

30 mph is what locals would call a "calm" day....and what qualifies as a hurricane-force wind in the tropics, is merely considered "breezy" in Lethbridge.....lol

And personally, I find playing into the wind on STA is actually extremely helpful on certain holes, like #2 for instance.
