    Hi all,

I've got a question to more experienced people in here than I am :-)

I'm currently using 2010 Rapture V2 10.5° Driver (L32+) but I'm pretty dissapointed with the distance so I decided to shop for a new driver.
I would really appreciate if you can help me to chose a better one out from the ones listed below or any different ones you can recommend:

     - G10 8.0° Driver (L58+)

    -  R9 TP 8.5° Driver (L62+)

    -  i15 8.0° Driver (L68+)

    Thank you for your help

My advise would be to rent them and give each a proper test, if you can afford it. Otherwise you're only going on what works for someone else, which may not be right for you.

All of those drivers will have a way quicker meter than you're used to so be prepared to fire a few wild shots at the start and seriously look at getting irons with a similar meter. I'm using the R9 L62 driver and get on great with it, as I said though, you may play better with a different driver. Another option would be the top Rapture, I used that for a while but it's only 8 yards longer than yours and there are a few holes where you'll struggle to reach the fairway from the tee.

I'd go for the G 10. The I15 only gains you 2 yards over it but has a much faster meter. R9 lacks precision.

I played with the R9 before going to the R11 and find it longer than it shows.

I also used the Raptures and then got the G10 when I needed more distance and liked it.  Then later got the R9 but for some reason had trouble hitting it straight, so I went back to the G10 for a while until I really got used to it, then ultimately moved back to the R9.  Just my own experience.  BTW, I still have my G10 irons and love 'em.  C

    - I'd love to rent them but I cannot afford....

    - I was considering r9 as a first choice but I also appreciate opinions of players who are / were in the same situation as I am.

... so it looks the best way is to buy them both ;-) but seriously - speed meter matters for me.

I think you will find they are the same meter speed.  I can't explain why I had trouble with the R9 at first.  Meter speed was a concern for me as well.  The level 58 G10 has 4 dots of precision vs. 2 1/2 for the lvl 62 R9 and is only rated 5 less yards (270 vs 275).  You may find the G10 easier to keep in play because of the higher precision.  Also forgiveness is about the same between the two.   IMO.   C

@Cleworthy - I'm really happy with your reply! That clarified my decision - thank you.

I would, and did, go with the R9.  On a drive, precision isn't as important.  At least until I started playing Congressional a bunch, my driving had remained pretty constant after the upgrade (around 85%, now 80%... Congressional is just a long, tough  #$%^ course.  In the Open, I wouldn't be surprised to see the winner shoot mid 60s), even with the faster meter.  The R9 is more forgiving, so unless you miss the ding in the direction of a strong wind, or on a side you have cut close, or you miss BADLY, the R9 will put you in the fairway farther than the G10.  Also, the one big advantage the G10 does have is it's loft.  But that is mitigated by the length of the R9, which as mentioned is much longer than listed.  It lists at 275 but I would estimate that a good 90% of my drives top 280, and at least 50% 295+.  And it flies exceptionally well with full BS, even into a light wind, which mitigates the lower loft to a large extent.  I have been extremely pleased with it, and I just went from the level 47 Rapture to the R9.  From the lower Rapture, you will notice an amazing difference once you get used to the faster meter.

To really break it down, here is what I would say:  If you feel like you are going to hit the ding regularly (say 3 of 4 or 4 of 5) with the meter of the G10 and R9, then get the G10.  But, if you think you are going to be within a couple pixels of the ding 80-90% of the time, but only actually hit it say 30% of the time (like myself), go with the R9.

But for irons?  G10 FTW.  I chose them over the TP and R9s,and I couldn't be happier.  If I could only find a putter that would improve my green game as much as a new driver and irons improved my tee to green game.
