I don't care one way or the other about players who WD, but just making the cut was a huge thrill for me and WD was never an option. Yes, I would have been disappointed to post a poor score, but I would have done it. No way would I have finished with a WD next to my name. No way.

    Ffudd:

Is the $15.00 the monetary value of the USGA membership or is that in addition ?

I am curious because I don't have a prize next to my name either although I am one of the 156 (plus ties) that qualified and supposedly won.

Is anybody from WGT prepared to say why some qualifiers weren't worthy of the prize stated?

I wasn't good enough to qualify this time round, but those that did and then quit shouldn't be getting the prize, when others who qualified and finished their round find themselves hatless.

I dont condemn anyone that WD from a tourny, for what ever reason , that is up to them, with meter issues the other day i shot a 53 on oakmont front 9, then rebooted cleared  cookies and cache and shot a 33 on bk 9, a total of 86,it didnt do anything to my average, and you have to take the rough with the smooth in this game, crap happens sometimes.

    Speaking from 2010 personal experience.

US Open and Open Championship cut made. I was prepared to be one of the *hatless* people due to my country of residence (just read, come on), but...

    - E-mail by USGA Members Program: "Congratulations for qualifying to play in the 2010 Virtual U.S. Open Championship. It is my pleasure to inform you that you are eligible to receive a complimentary, one-year Membership to the United States Golf Association" (and so on, with all benefits list).

Unfortunately, I've got no prize home, but I'm guess who's fault: USGA MP or border service incident? :)

    - E-mail by WGT: "Congratulations, Daskino! By qualifying for the 2010 Virtual Open Championship tournament you have won a 2010 Open Championship hat". And some time later, I got the Open Champ hat home by WGT Prize Fulfilment ;)

So i'm waiting patiently what will happen with 2011 prize.

    DarSum:

So, again, I ask who the hell cares if someone WDs?

I think the frustration here is because so many people invested a lot of time, effort and money (ie balls) trying to make the cut. It isn't the 200 qualifiers who sponsored the prizes, it is the thousands and thousands of non-qualifiers who played the course over and over but didn't quite make it.

I think they have the right to feel aggrieved that someone made it then didn't bother to finish, just as everyone had the right to WD and some unfortunately took it.

I was lucky, I made the cut (I'm not good enough to pretend there wasn't some luck involved). First round I was hopeless - hit the tree on #3 (not #4) and went 3 over par after 3 holes, not used to the greens etc etc and finished the round still 3 over. Never once considered quitting. 2nd round not brilliant but much better, 3 under par.

If I am lucky enough to qualify for RSG hopefully I will be better on the greens and a little further up the leaderboard, I definitely will not have a WD against my name.

Didn't make the cut myself, congrats to all who did. To those who WD all I can say is wow, shame on you, would you have walked off the course at Congressional as well?  Sportsmanship and integrity are two things sorely lacking in todays world.  Would have loved to been in the tourney, and would have gladly posted wtf ever I shot.

I WD my first round of US Open. I should tell that i cant win prize if this competition because i live in Spain for this, i play in new courses to enjoy and if i start my round with a bad meter and bogey holes, i dont want spend more time in play 18 holes to continued with problems. Is my reson, couldnt be enough for you or other player but is an option and i prefer to turn off my computer and enjoy with other activity. thats all. Most of us played here for fun, and when this not happen, try to do it with other thigs (family, TV, ...)

I was fortunate to make the cut and even though I wanted to I decided to stick with my rds.  First Rd was a 69 with 2birds and no bogeys. I was constantly missing easy bird putts and was frustrated. Very easily I could have quit but thought anything can happen in the second rd. The second rd, was awful for me. bogey 2, hit the trees and took a +3 on 4. I fought back to par at the turn. On 11, I put the ball in the water for a double to be +11.  My exact thoughts is that I should just WD if I don't bird the next hole. Well I birdied out (12-18) and got 65. I could have easily hit the WD button if  metered once more.

I guess my point is that whether I finished or not that is my prerogative. I don't play this game to please others, it is for my enjoyment. If I feel like I am wasting my time or not having fun I'll easily WD from any tourn. Who knows, when the British Open starts, I may  in fact have a WD by my name.   For people who criticize others for WD, and were not in the tourn. get over it. They earned that right and I'm sure that they couldn't care less what people have to say. Whatever reason that made them WD, they earned their right.
