Yeah, well, here's a form of baseball that I'm sure very few of us has seen. Check this out. Finnish baseball. And just try to figure out what's going on.

Not really. It takes the pitching aspect out of the game, sorta like slowpitch softball. The catcher there is also a fielder after the toss up (I suspect that's what they would call it.) Apparently the batter  tried to bunt but it was outside the lines and the guy on first was diving back. That's what's kinda weird-why was he diving back?

I played against a Finnish team in a men's world tournament in Arizona and they played our game. That might be their version of our softball game.

<lucky> Here's the rules for Finnish baseball or as they call it "pesapallo".

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/244001-rules-of-finnish-baseball

and the phrase ' to each his own' comes to mind.  But to us, either in cricket or baseball, the orb has to be hurled at the batter from a distance not just tossed up in the air in front of him! Otherwise, where's the drama coming from the skill of the pitcher or bowler not to mention the batter. Love to see the Finns try to hit a curve ball from Sabathia.  It is indeed alien but I guess they got it well sorted out and love it for what it is. And I'll go ahead and answer for YJ re softball. It's just baseball with a smaller field and a larger, softer ball pitched underhand.

Softball is for everyone.  Baseball is for athletes.  ;-)

*edit-After seeing that link the video makes sense. Looks like a fun variation of the game. A big stick doesn't help you with their rules. I wonder if steroids would.  :-D

Played a bit of softball in Hyde Park.

I play cricket in Chile. I got an international cap vs Peru. LOL

Blooming ball hurts when you get a rib tickler.

Ah, but you do, and the MLS is improving rapidly. The US did quite well at the last World Cup, and will continue to improve.

    Andyson:

Thanks for that info plim, now I understand.

Juan, there are 131 member countries in the International Baseball Federation and 105 member countries in the International Cricket Council.

208 Member Associations make up FIFA.

The only thing i will say mantis0014 is "The Ashes" will be interesting at the least....lol  ohhh i thought you were ready the last time...lol

    Lucky

I thought we were ready too...lol, A few strange team selections and some weird decisions by the Captain cost us bad... but that's history.

I was over in England in 1989 when the Aussies was over there, we lost every game leading up to the Ashes and the English press was hammering us...lol... The Tests start and we became the best side since the Bradman era, I think maybe better. Then we found this bloke called Warnie and until about 5 years ago were untouchable.

Looking forward to the next series.

    -Roger
