We’ve partnered with European Tour and DreamHack to launch this yearlong series of esports events, that includes 6 live events at European Tour stops and $100,000 in total cash prizes up for grabs.

Kicking off the 2020 tour is the European eTour Qualifier: Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship tournament on WGT, running now through Tues, 12/17.

The top 128 leaderboard finishers will move on to a 4-day bracket round to determine the final 8 that will travel to compete live at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA this January.

The live event (IN ABU DHABI!) will feature a total purse prize of $10,000, split among the players and the winner will automatically earn a spot in the Global Finals, to be hosted in Dubai next November.

To maximize competition, all players will use the same set of virtual golf clubs in both the qualifier and the live event.

The European eTour Qualifier: Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is the first of 5 events leading up to the Global Finals in Dubai that will feature a $50,000 total prize purse. You don’t want to miss your chance to be part of this historic tour!

    Some bulletpoints:

    • The eTour tournaments will all use a custom club set that everyone in the qualifiers, brackets, and live events will use
    • Winning at the live event holds your place in the final event
    • Players can qualify on Flash, Desktop, or Mobile
    • Live events will have all players using WGT Desktop Early Access version of WGT

    Hi Champ, great news!

I have two questions after reading the rulebook:

Are players theoretically allowed to participate in two or more live events? Or does everyone who qualifies for an event have one shot at a live event and is prohibited to enter the remaining qualifiers?

Does the set of clubs change for each tournament or will it be the same for all 6?

Looking forward to competing, thanks a lot!

Players who participate in the live event but do not win can enter again in the next qualifier. Only the player who wins the live event will not be able to participate in another live event.

The set of clubs will not change for each tournament. The set used in this qualifier will be the official set for the entire 2020 eTour.

Edit: Evidently I'm wrong. The set situation has not been confirmed to change or not for the 2020 eTour.

Seems a little rough on the player who wins the first one. Doesn't get a chance to visit any of the other countries/venues, and will be unable to win any more prize money until the Dubai final whereas the other 7 qualifiers can. Would be more sensible to allow everyone to play in all of them, and if someone wins more than one, open up another wildcard spot.

1000 USD limit on the flights is not going to get you very far towards Abu Dhabi from many places in the world in the holiday season at only 2 and a bit week's notice. Qualifiers a couple of months ahead of time would be wiser in future.

Desktop early access also doesn't provide a matchplay option yet, does it? So you guys have a lot of work to do in only 4 weeks to get this ready - can't have any glitches in it either.

Or make the qualifier from that event the highest finisher who isn't already one.

Kind of short on the notice dont you think . Everyone who may want to play may not have their passports ready and trying to get one during the holiday season is quite a challenge . Also not to mention getting the proper inoculations to travel abroad as well .

Today is the 13th so 4 days of play in a qualifier just doesnt seem fair .

I just played a few holes and the set of the week sucks . Ball sales will go up thats for sure . Players should at least be playing with their own clubs or at the least use their own putter . Good luck to those who play you will need it .

Posting to edit myself from earlier. My understanding was incorrect and a decision has not yet been made regarding whether the club set will change from tournament to tournament.
