JBIII9: could have been so much worse if I hadn’t got lucky on a few of those par saves.
JB, that could be the summary for my round also!
I knew Erin would be tough for me. I normally have several 3-putt bogeys on its championship greens and very few birdies. So, I fortified myself with two bowls of Lucky Charms, kissed my Blarney Stone souvenir, and searched online til I found two gals named Pat and Mike to be my caddies. When I met them at the venue, I slapped Packer Backer cheesehead hats on them, stuck 4-leaf clovers behind both of my ears, and said a Prayer in Remembrance for all the nuns at my alma mater St. Patrick’s grade school, seeking their intercession with The Big Guy. Having a pagan streak as well, I implored the Fae and the Little People to hold off on their tricks for an hour with a promise of gold for their forbearance.
All of that worked!
While I hit only 2/3 GIR, I had 83% scrambling and 100% sand saves (3 bunkers) for stats. Some tricky long second putts for par. I couldn’t even tell ye what went wrong with the first putts. But I know the seconds were rainbow blessed. 🌈 No 3-putts. Only 1 bogey.
Very happy with 64 on that course.
Me mither didn’t have to turn over in her grave. In fact, I can hear her sing: “On Erin’s green valleys, look down in thy love.” (full version below)
