    craigswan:
In Scotland every new baby is gifted a baby box by our government . It includes things like: a mattress, fitted sheet and blanket that fit the box perfectly a selection of clothes from newborn up to the age of 6 months a bath towel, a travel changing mat, muslin cloth squares and a bib books, so you can start sharing stories together before your baby is born a digital underarm thermometer for taking their temperature full safety instructions and safe sleeping guidelines

It concerns me a little that you, a guy, would know all this...lol

In Canada, all you get (or got) was a size nine boot out the door.

I went online to see if I could find something about the Steak and Lobster dinner and found this post from someone who delivered at Yale-New Haven Hospital, which is just across town from St. Raphael.

Check this link out and read about what other meals new parents have selected..

    There are some interesting selections!

in Connecticut, huh.  When not yet discharged from the military in 1972.  My wife delivered our Daughter at a New London hospital, instead of on base.  I sure don't remember either a gift box or a special dinner.  But my Daughter only cost me $25.00 to be born.  Maybe that had something to do with it.

    New London...

    Were you a "sardine"?

My older brother worked for a few years at Electric Boat as an acoustical engineer. He was responsible for potable water systems. Can't have any noise on the Nuke subs ya know. They even had a team whose sole responsibility was making sure the toilet seats made no sound when closing!

He now works elsewhere with Helicopters.

A sardine, never heard that one.

But yes, I was a diesel boat sailor 1968-1972.  I know EB well, I was supposed to go to work there, at a later time when we moved back to conn., programming their welders, but alas that didn't happen, had hearing problems from running the diesel engines on the sub.  I was an engineman.  In the forward room.

It always surprise me how well kept a secret it is as to where our subs are built- astonishing actually!

This one I really like, it commemorated Connecticut day, December 22. Craig missed this one. This is a "seawolf" class, one of the few, in the Artic Circle:

The Sub Base in GROTON  never was super secret, unless that has changed.  Hell most of the time they said it was in NEW LONDON along with the Coast Guard Acadamy.  And the Nautilus(SS571) was tied up outside the confines of the sub base, on the Thames river, right below one of the parking lots, off base, at least it was in 72, when I was discharged.  Now Rota, Spain, Kings Bay, Georgia, and Washington State were different stories.  Hell they wouldn't even let us have ammo in the 45's we carried standing watches.  How it ever became the Submarine Capitol of the World is beyond me.

amazingly yes, our Nuclear sub base has billboards showing you the way... LMAO

Except for the 3 Seawolves, they always at sea and that, fortunately, is a secret.

No need to even look up the coordinates, just check out Groton, Connecticut on Google Earth, you can even see whether they are docked, or at sea.You just have to know where to look. If you do look, ignore the sub docks at the beginning of the river, that is where they are made, go further up, past the bridge to the Navy Base, there they be...

    shhhh, it's a secret.

There was a time, a very short time ago, when all the piggies were home...now, only one...the rest have left to where? It is sad when you see the boat pens empty..It means something....

Hey, don't fret, we can see Russia's as well, if you know where to look, here is a hint...think Mumansk...It appears their piggies are not home at all, not a one, but, someone is making an Aircraft Carrier.....

Don't you  agree. Satellites are great...

EDIT: I would like to point out, at least when the US is building them, we do not do it in the open. No one knows whether we or are not, and how many. They never see the light until they are ready for sea trials. As for the subs, they go under not too long after they leave the river.
