    This link to an example video is on the first page, but basically it involves taking a putter on your second shot of a hole from the fairway. The putt doesn't move the ball but it adds a stroke to the total.

    So if a match is handicapped the higher level player would take the "air shot" on prescribed holes?

    Correct. It's mentioned in the rules and outline of the comp which is pinned to the first post.
