I just made Champion and remember reading in the past that making Tour Champion takes only 200 ranked rounds of 57 on average, but someone just told me that it's now 1000 ranked rounds averaging 55. Can anyone confirm the correct figures for me?

Thanks for your time and trouble.

Thanks, I wonder where that chart came from. I see that it is dated more than 2 years ago. Has nothing changed in that time?

Thanks again for replying so quickly.

That chart came from the 1000’s of posts in the WGT forum pages like this one. Many long-time players who posted their findings here, and asked questions. I just took the information from other members, and other posted charts and made this. To the best of my knowledge the chart is still accurate.

But keep in mind that WGT will advance people differently in the coin rooms. The chart below is for ranked rounds only.

The chart Dave33200 posted is accurate.

By the way, the average to advance to Tour Champion was never 57.00. That was a guess some players made when they opened up the Tour Champion tier. Players quickly figured out that the average was 55.00. Still, every once in a while, I'll see people state that it's 57.00. But it never was.

The other thing to note is before the Tour Champion tier was opened up in December 2018, the number of rounds for saturation at both Tour Legend and Champion tiers was 200 rounds.

For those who were already at Champion tier when they opened up Tour Champion, the saturation number remained at 200 rounds. For players who subsequently advanced to Champion, it became 1,000 rounds.

Seemed a bit unfair to me, but that's what WGT decided to do when they opened up TC. At the time, I actually questioned a moderator about that decision. The answer was something along the lines of the number of 200 rounds for saturation at Champion tier was always intended to be temporary.

Before TC was opened up to advancement based on rounds and average, it was supposedly "by invitation only." The tier was actually created in July 2015. That's also when the Champion tier was created.

@Robert: The "200 more" have been used a few times, also, IIRC, when TL was introduced. I always understood it as a way to prohibit those in the formerly highest tier to jump up immediately. I faintly remember that WGT once also took away a bunch of rounds from the players' score pool to increase the grind.

As of today, the progression 500 - 750 - 1,000 looks quite coherent.

    Dave33200:

IMHO, this is the best table available, with only two flaws:

    1) The given score averages are relevant up to the third digit, thus 61.000 ...  would be more enlightening. Example: The indication of 61.00 may not include a promotion if it's in fact 61.004.

    2) The table misses the exceptions of Par3, Par5 and CC Custom Courses which may see ranked rounds but have no impact on the average and saturation.

Just throwing this out there again.

other than ego for a label there is zero reason to rush tiering up. And plenty of reasons not to do so.

Yeah, I never was particularly keen on tiering up. I had my best time in this game as a Master and Tour Master. I didn't want to become a Legend, but tiering up is inevitable if you work on your game and seek to improve. It's funny because there is no reward for the accomplishment, aside from a partial sleeve of balls worth of credits, and seems more like a punishment with longer tees and faster greens. Unless your ego gets off on the label which I've never cared about. Good to know it'll be years before it happens again. I was just curious.

Thanks again for all the info gentlemen.

Following this chart I had 750 RR as a TL. My Avg was 58.60 so I figured I would tier up. It did not happen.

I contcted WGT and they gave me a complete double speak response. They explained that it is a combanation of RR and Avg. Coin rooms and other events also effect this? Ok, I know this but they went on to say that they do Not reveal there policy and the quide in the forum is not offcial and is only a loose quideline.

I am probably over 770 RR now and have still not changed.

So it seems to be totally random. I don't put much if any stock in the quide above.

While that's fine you believe it to be totally random and don't put any stock in the guide, the fact remains the guide has been verified by many players over the years, and it is not random.

For those who take the ranked-rounds approach to tiering up, the guide is accurate. Over the years, without fail, every single person I've ever seen state the guide is not accurate has either (a) misinterpreted the guide in some significant way, or (b) simply miscounted their ranked rounds.

So, are you certain all 770 rounds you played at TL actually count toward saturation? Is it possible you are including some rounds in that number that don't count? Examples of rounds people usually include in their ranked rounds that don't count toward saturation are the following: Par 3s, Par 5s, or Custom Courses.

The biggest mistake I see players make in counting rounds is they simply note how many rounds they had when they tiered up and use that as a base for counting number of rounds at their current tier.

For example, maybe they had 500 rounds when they tiered up to Tour Legend. So, they figure when the number in their stats gets to 1,250, they played the required 750. And they might have played the required 750, provided they played no Par 3s, Par 5s, or custom courses.

Anytime one plays a ranked round, it's included in the stats. That does not necessarily mean it's included in the saturation number for that tier.
