The one at Kiawah #2 is very very close, but by FAR the best example is the original one on Oakmont #18

This is curious too, 99. I'm wondering if the replays can look different, depending on the computer set up or something.

In my replays: at Kiawah#2 there are equal amounts of vapour trail visible on BOTH sides of the hole i.e. it couldn't be a more direct hit; at Oakmont #18 there is a tiny sliver of vapour trail outside the hole to the down side.

Similarly, one responder above thinks the 4ft putt is a miss, but I can't see any vapour trail outside the hole.

(Better do something else now, I'm spending way too much time peering at the screen from 6 inches away!)

.... The latest was a 4ft putt at Oak#1 that stopped .9ft past after skating across the hole..................

Tried new tab, still get a much clearer picture than yours showing right edge of trail on right edge of hole and left edge of trail just inside left edge of hole.

Perhaps different platforms/set ups give different views?

How do you capture your still, BTW?

use the pause button on the replay, you can stop/start the replay.

import screenshot to photoshop and enlarge the image.

i think i know what the problem is.

wgt uses 2d photos, the white disc representing the ball is also 2d.

the vapour trail shows the 2d white disc passing across a 2d photo, hence the confusion of ball crossing right "over" hole.

we make the bad assumption that the vapour trail shows the point at which the 3d ball touches the 3d ground,

    watch your replay again.

this time use the stop start

note the vapour trail in relation to the ball

especially take note at the end of the putt as it turns more to the right.

do you see what i see?

i see the vapour trail to the left of ball and not underneath it.

so the bug is the incorrect representation of the vapour trail, not cellophane over the hole

some enlarged photos would show this, i'll do them in the morning - oops, it already is.....

I use the vapour trail iz and this happens to me as well. The vapour trail isn't 100% accurate to the path of the ball, sometimes you have to ignore the trail and focus on the ball. On some of my pitch shots  and short shots, I get a vapour trail with squared angles in the arc.

yep, got it now, thanks for that - ball is clearly on right edge of trail, so missing over right edge of hole

    Hi 99,

Sticking with camera #1, I see this one misses now. I'm advised the back view close up can be inaccurate.

... and even this one, sticking with camera#1, goes round back of hole.

Someone (3puttsux?) on the Pulling the Flag thread pointed out the problems with back-views.

So that clears up all my examples - no cellophane... and when in doubt, stick with camera #1.
