In a P G A event you are allowed a a number of ball's at the start of the round.

Now if the tournament goes extra hole do you get to reload after 18 or are you just screwed if you run out on the extra hole's?

If you run out of balls in a PGA tournament or sudden death playoff (by virtue of water, O.B., lost in woods, lost in tall grass) you probably have lost the match anyway.  So just head to the clubhouse bar & grill for a gin & tonic.

this would need to be a tournament rule, like the one ball condition

nothing in the rules of golf to prevent borrowing a ball from a fellow competitor.

get one from a person in the crowd or the ball supplier would also be nearby - so long as it does not unduly slow the pace of play.

It's kind of like not letting your car get too low on gas.

Personally, I'll rarely start a Round without 30 of my chosen ball at my disposal.  Obviously I'm not using them all, but it's just a habit that I've gotten into to have around 30 of my ball at a time.  Once I've lost or worn out enough that the supply dips below about 24 or so, then I just "fill back up" and continue on, simple as that.

Do that, and you'll never get close to having this issue again.
