if a player runs out of the golf balls he is using during a round, why not allow that player to choose which golf ball from his bag to play with?! instead of just making them play with basic wgt golf ball!!!! i have callaway, nike and srixon balls in my bag. let me pick one of them instead! i hope you will fix this.

Ha Ha Ha ,,, yeah, RIGHT!  You think this hasn't been suggested before?  But if WGT can make bucks forcing you to buy more balls instead of letting you use balls you already bought, do you really think they will really implement that?

It is called the "one ball rule" , AKA   "one ball condition"   but I'll let someone else explain it this time, as I think I'm over my limit of 10 explanations about the same subject , but , I will tell you it has nothing to do with this~~~>

I carry several different brand balls in my bag. Thus I choose what I want when I lose one from those in my bag. No one has ever told me "hey you!!!, you have to play with this basic range ball"

This isn't  the PGA after all, like everyone says....."its just a game".

How can WGT enforce one thing and not another? Example: I'm on a side slope and expect to have to adjust my aim to compensate for said slope. Guess what though? I don't have to as it just allows me to hit it straight as if there is no slope.

Dude has a legitimate point about them making money and we all know it and at one point has stated such on here unless we think we're WGT personnel wannabe's.  :)

Dude doesn't have a legitimate point about forcing you to buy balls with a rule that is and can be used by a tournament committee. A rule which has been "in place from the beginning."  Back before you graced us with your presence here T-wade there wasn't a high revenue in ball sales. So to say that the one ball rule was put in place to "Force" you to buy cally's / nikes / srixons is ridiculous !

Ummm ,  well lets see T-wade , I think that would  be because one is a rule and the other is NOT.  :  /

        LOL

Are we really going to get into rules?  What about when the ball is hit O.B. There are at least three different choices one can decide on when this occurs. 1) You can drop the ball within two club-lengths of where the ball lay, not closer to the hole, which is the most commonly used and best option if you can get adequate relief from your predicament. 2) you can proceed under the same rule as for a ball that is lost or out of bounds, returning to the original spot and replaying. 3) You can drop back as far as you want from the point where your ball lay, keeping that point between you and the hole.

Now where is the rule enforcement for this particular scenario, since we're all about rules here?

Still a legitimate point about using the balls already in the bag. I could care less about the part about being made to buy them as we all know, NO ONE can make you buy balls.

Thank you for your gracious response and sooooo look forward to the next one  :)

No, when the ball is OB you must play from where you first hit it, stroke and distance penalty. No options.

Under the USGA  and R&A there is no rule that says that you have to play the same brand of ball if one needs to be replaced during general play, but you have to play the same ball until there is a condition which prevents it such as: OB, Lost, or damaged ball.

The concept of a "one ball rule" or "one ball condition" is a special rule generally invoked during high level professional or amateur tournaments that requires ball replacement to be the same brand and type as the original. It appears that WGT believes every round played is subject to the one ball condition.

I find this troubling since replacing a lost ball with a "starter" would violate the so called one ball condition, but it is better than DQ'd or stroke penalties.

The OP is making a comment that most of us have had - which is why do we get stuck with a starter ball when we need to replace a ball particularly when we have a better ball in our bags.

Some players say it is your own fault for not minding your caddie when he/she warned you to buy additional balls, which is really silly.  There are a number of reasons why one would choose not to purchase additional balls at that time - like say, a player has 100 other balls in his/her bag from which to choose?

Again, in general play there is no rule that says you can't use a different brand ball if you need to replace your original.

So it would be nice to use other balls before being forced to use a starter.

Leon is correct, how you play with your buddies on the weekend, is not how the Pro's play.
