It's noon on March 1st and there's already a 55 and a handful of 56s on the leaderboard.

St. Andrews from the whites in moderate winds.

    I predict a 49 wins it.

Might be possible with unlimited quals, I know we all thought the same thing in the Dev's challenge a few months back, but that was single play and it didn't happen.

Are you sick? This year no one would break the 50's yet.

    I shot a 56. I use K15 irons and a G10 driver. I'm going to change my prediction to 48

It's unlimited, from the whites, moderate winds, and at the easiest course.

If Bollox, Genorb, Dansamcam, NMART, Suncity28, or any other big hitter wanted to be the first guy (or girl) to break 50, this is the venue.

A 48 is 12 birdies and 6 eagles. All four par 5s are reachable, also 9 and 10 are genuine eagle opportunities.

I have no doubt that if the best players in the game put their mind to it, someone would do it.

Bollox shot his 52 on day 1 of a month long tournament. By contrast, the winning score of 52 in the Feb Qualifier wasn't posted until the last week of the tournament.

i think that the par 5 are 2...5 and 14...

50 will be the winning score...... even from the yellow tees, for a score like that you need to hit all perfect shots.....and a bit of luck too!!!!

    Absolutely.

I hope I didn't give the impression that I thought it would be easy or anything less than spectacular.

I just think all the ingredients are there. The stars are aligned for a record breaking score.

Of course it would take a fair amount of good rolls, advantageous winds, and probably perfect timing and decision making, but I definitely think someone will catch lightning in a bottle.

You're right, I'm dumb. No one told me there'd be math.
