    Hey all,

I'm relatively new to WGT and as a result realise that getting Master at a lower level perhaps wasn't a good idea in hindsight.

My question is that apart from hitting from long tees with short clubs, do my lower level irons become less effective? Precision & Forgiveness stats predominantly.

Now i'm level 52 i'm finding that when i hit the Ding there is no guarentee to a good shot in regards to being wide of the hole. I'm also finding that missing the ding by even the slightest margin can have a catastrophic effect on the shot. These things have only started happening the last week and were never round breaking previously. Is there a mechanic in place that changes your game and equipment as you level through tiers and levels?

Many thanks for your time and Happy Golfing.

    Bez aka Rich.

Hi there Bez/Rich from a fellow LFC fan and low level master.

Getting to a new tier at a low level is tough and untill you hit lvl 58 and can get the G20 driver, you'll be faced with a lot of long iron shots.

Regarding your question I think the issue could be one of a few things:

1 - Missing the ding slightly on a long iron shot will mean that you miss by further with a long iron than with a short one.

2 - There's always some natural variation with clubs.  I saw a legend a while back (can't remember who) explain about precision and forgiveness ratings for clubs a while back and essentially he said that precision rating affects how close the ball goes to where you were aiming (if you ding it) and forgiveness determines how far off-line it goes when you don't.  In other words unless you have a club with a 5star precision rating it will never go exactly where you aim.

3 - Have you upgraded clubs laterly?  If you have to get say extra yards, you may be finding that the precision/forgiveness is not so good as your old clubs.

I'm not sure that the game gets directly harder when you level up but it sure does when the course is 500yds longer!!

    Cheers

As far as I know the clubs don't play any worse as you go up the tiers but I know I felt the same when I went up a tier.  I think it has more to do with playing from tees that are further back and therefore using longer irons for your approach shots.  When you miss the ding on a 4 iron the variation is greater than when you miss it with a 9 iron.  The ball is going further so a 1° variation has you a few more yards off target.   If it really seems like the clubs are playing worse you could try clearing your flash cache by going here.  Click on delete all sites or just select media5.wgt.com if you don't want to lose any saved data from other sites that use flash.

And you're right about going up tiers too quickly being bad.   I don't know if you only played your favourite courses but you should avoid this, play all of them, even the ones where you score badly.  This is the only way to really develop your game and learn all the shots.  Having a good short game is also very important, being able to save par when you miss the green in regulation will help your game a lot.

There are some very good guides to pitching and chipping here in the forums.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

You think Master level changes the game play!!!!! Wait till you get to Tour Master. I see you have only to lose another .35 off you're average and you get there. Its gets a wee bit harder then.

Same distances as Master but the greens are Tourney speed.

The way you are scoring at the moment I can see you there in about a week:~))

I suggest you listen to what MM says and level up a bit more before you get there.

Thanks alot for all the great advice guys, i guess it just feels the way it does at present due to hitting more long iron shots, makes a lot of sense.

I have always played all courses and all game types to level and keep the game more interesting. I'm currently holding my average where it is at present, I want level 59 first so I can get the G20 set before i go for TM and I generally practice on Tourney greens in preparation for that.

Special Thanks to morgan and MM, alot of great pointers there that i'll take on board.

    Thanks again,

    Rich....YNWA!

    Biggie,

With all due respect to the others, I disagree almost entirely.

Tiering up early is definitely a challenge, but it's not one you should shy away from. I reached Legend at level 68. I'm currently at level 76 and, aside from a different driver, I still use the same clubs you use.

Tiering up early makes you a better and smarter player. It will pay dividends when your level eventually catches up to your tier.

In answer to your original question; Does club precision decrease, (or does deviation increase) as you progress in tiers? - paraphrased.

No. I had the same question when moving from TM to Legend because it seemed like that's what was happening. The truth was I was hitting longer irons into faster greens in stronger winds. The clubs haven't changed, just the conditions.

I recommend joining Young Guns CC which is a CC specifically for low level - high tiered players. You will find great advice in the YGCC forum specifically tailored to your unique position.

Being a LL-HT player is difficult, and at times frustrating, but the pay off of knowing you're skill brought you there is something level 90 TPs will never understand.

Anyone who says it's the clubs that make the golfer, or anyone who says you can't compete with inferior clubs, has never tried.

Good luck Biggie. Stick with it. Learn your clubs completely before shelling out money for new ones. Changing clubs often is a straight path to an inconsistent game.

Hope to see you at YGCC.
